2016-03-08 05:57:00 | On kids gaming desktop -has several accounts and an admin account. For easiness sake let's call one of the users Ralph. He used the PC last night and all was fine. Shut down and ralph went to use it today and found he had to enter a password to access his desktop ( which wasn't correct as he didn't have one set). I switched user to admin and AVG popped up saying licence number wasn't correct ?, accepted the correct licence number but wouldn't startup. So had to shut that down. Anything I try to do through the admin login pops up a password requester for Ralph to enter a password including re-installing avg in case it was corrupt etc. Anyone seen this before and any tips on what to do ?

2016-03-08 06:08:00 | As an update. Booted into safemode and ran AVG from there. It started scanning in a shell window but kept popping up messages ( line after line) saying ' locked file. not scanned is OK "

I also see some web access is also blocked to Amazon Browser Services from browser distribution services.inc. Having read more on the AVG locked files it would appear AVG can only run a scan of files applicable to a specific logged in user under safe mode hence others are locked. I now see myself as a standard user and it would appear Ralph is now the administrator |

2016-03-08 11:38:00 | Hi Driftwood. Windows 7 Home version. Couldn't do anything in safemode as everytime I tried to run something it popped up a password requester box. So, downloaded a command line programme - another forum suggestion, ran it from a bootable cd and managed to turn my account back into admin. Then used that access to return ralphs account to original state. Ran Malwarebytes and it only found one entry in a temp folder for a popup bar. ADWcleaner found a few entries which I cleaned - all a variant of the same and installed through Ask.com...AVG still borked so have unistalled that and will have a think re AV/Firewall software. Been with AVG for 6 years and its the paid version but you are not the first to suggest it's a bit past its prime. Will continue tidying up PC tomorrow night and will report back. I did expect to find something a bit more aggressive than what the software picked up. Thanks again for commenting | Gedc (11466) | |
2016-03-08 14:08:00 | Gedc I would install 360 Total Security. Great suite I've been using for a little over a year now. If you want paid, go ESET. :) In regards to the locked files, that actually just sounds like the file owner has somehow changed/become corrupted. winaero.com (fairly similar in Windows 7, just this tutorial has pictures)
