1416848 2016-03-04 16:47:00 I run a computer group for pensioners and I want to setup a "before and after" Window 10 demonstration.

I was going to use my old ACER laptop but no matter what I try, Windows 10 does not recognize the graphics driver so the screen blanks when installed. In fact, when I checked, the website specifically says it is NOT compatible with Windows 10.

However I was recently given a SAMSUNG NP-RC510-S02NZ laptop that has had a rough past. The original version of Windows 7 is gone and the version that has been installed at sometime in the past is dodgy to say the least.

I have reinstalled the correct version of Win 7 using the correct Product key and with some tweaking of drivers, its activates and is recognized just fine

BUT when it comes to upgrading to Windows 10, it rejects the product key even though under Win 7 is fine. I have tried this several times now.

My ONLY hope is that someone may have a Samsung Laptop of this exact model and has created a set of RECOVERY DVD's.

I so, I would REALLY appreciate a copy of them.

If you can help, I will post you the required number of DVD's and a postage bag to return them in

REGARDS TONY

1416849 2016-03-04 18:23:00 Does the "Get Windows 10" icon appear? ,if not try chkdsk to see if any files are missing as I had a problem similar with the "Get Windows 10" icon not appearing but was giving the Genuine conformation but had some critical updates not installing to upgrade so reload do updates and upgrade to Windows 10

Was Media Creation Tool used and the correct Windows build used (Window 7 Home/Windows 10 Home or Window 7 Pro/Window 10 Pro etc)

1416850 2016-03-04 19:49:00 Hi Lawrence

The "get windows" icon had not appeared, (YET) but windows 7 had been brought up to SP1 level (the minimium required)

I have updated a number of computers to windows 10, and I always use the mediacreation tool tool because I like to control when it was done

The is is the ONLY time I have had an issue.

Quite odd really, which is why I would like to return it to an original installation

1416851 2016-03-04 20:38:00 Does it check out with the validation tool www.microsoft.com Lawrence (2987)
1416852 2016-03-05 05:37:00 It accepted the product key and then activated fine. however I must confess that I just assumed all was OK

It's a great pity that Windows 10 does not work with the basic Microsoft graphics driver on the other laptop (ACER) which is what is installed on the acer, because it does the whole way 100%

As I have no offers of DVD's yet, I may repeat the install on the ACER, then turn off the WiFi so it cannot update

It doesn't look good but will be near enough to show the basics

Thanks for your suggestions

Regards Tony

1416853 2016-03-05 06:41:00 Just how long did you leave it when it went to the Black / Blank ?? Sometimes it takes a while, returned One just the other day, took 2.15 Minutes to show the screen, it was working in the background, ( seems a long time when waiting for it) wainuitech (129)
1416854 2016-03-05 15:20:00 Aern't computers fun sometimes. I started in the TRS-80 days and have learn't there is no normal, just disorganised Chaos

LOL

Regrettably there have been no offers of recovery disks

As to the blanking. sadly when it happens its permanent

So the next stage is to clone the Win 7 Drive again (for about the 5th time) swap drives, upgrade to 10. and this time leave it at the basic resolution which looks a bit gungy but it will have to do to show the group

Thanks for your interest.

1416855 2016-03-05 20:15:00 I'm curious.

1/ What were you hoping to achieve by running recovery disks?
2/ Why are you cloning & swapping drives?

1416856 2016-03-12 18:58:00 sorry I have been very busy

It was all explained in the original post. I run a computer group for pensioners and I was trying to set up a "before Win 10" and "after win 10" demo

I have since cracked the problem but in a different way. Not perfect but it's fine for what I need for the next meeting

Thanks for your interest
