2016-03-03 06:11:00 | Following a recent update to our W7 Desktop, we have been unable to print PDF files. Message shows unable to print, and on closing that window, we get no page selected. No problems sending PDFs from our Laptop, so suspect issue is not the printer, a Brother MFC-J430W. The update may be coincidental, we don't know. Any suggestions? Rny

2016-03-03 06:51:00 | Hi wainuitech, Sorry about the vagueness of my post. Update was AVG, reader is Acrobat Reader DC, Should have read "no problems sending to printer from Laptop", (Wireless, as is Desktop) No problems with printing anything other than PDFs, 1.23 TB space available in HDD and file size for the doc we want is 92KB. Rny Think you may have already given the solution :) AVG= Rubbish ( serious) The questions I asked were to simply get the full picture, its easier than guessing and no one can see what you can while sitting in front of the computer. :) AVG in the past has been the cause of havoc with Adobe PDF reader. AVG, if you search on google has several times over the years been the cause of printer ( and many other) problems. ( Off topic, but in the workshop I've currently got 4 customers computers badly corrupted with various problems ALL caused by AVG - (Two after a recent update according to the Owners) uninstall AVG completely, uninstall as per normal, restart, then run the removal tool ( AVG leaves most of its program behind) support.avg.com (support.avg.com). See if the printer now prints PDF's. The reason for asking about space is its recommended that a PDF had at least 3 times its size to allow printing ( temp files).

2016-03-04 04:11:00 | Uninstalled AVG, updated printer drivers, still no joy. Have now booked the Desktop in for a service next week, so hopefully will get sorted. Will update with the result and cause as the solution may help others. Rny

2016-03-04 11:00:00 | Hey rny, I think you would be better trying www.foxitsoftware.com as a replacement to adobe reader. There are alternatives you can use, I just remember Foxit from years ago. You will find that printing pdf will work with this. Cheers, KK

2016-03-06 20:26:00 | Just in case its a protected pdf.... Some PDF's simply cant be printed, ever. Its a security setting in the actual PDF, as the creator might not want that pdf printed. Try another, older pdf that you have printed in the past. Chances are that isnt the issue though

2016-03-06 21:35:00 | My interpretation of a locked file is simply any PDF that won't print out, so I print to Bullzip for any such cantankerous or locked PDFs and I haven't had a print blocked or denied (yet). They come out a perfect copy, as *title*.pdf.pdf and I just delete the superfluous .pdf and away I go! Cheers Billy 8-{)
