1416522 2016-02-25 05:43:00 OK First of all -hands up, minimal antivirus on my machine. Guilty as charged.
So I suppose I was playing roulette.
I havent had a virus on one of my machines since 2001
How do I get rid of this thing?
I got it by following a link to a driver update for my LG monitor. Wasn't concentrating - clicked. Crap - knew I was on a bad site instantly.
The result of 10 seconds inattention...
Now when I click on a legitimate link, I am taken to smartnewtab.com with som ******fat-yank telling me how to get rich quick, if not him then som poor tart one stop short of a porn shoot also telling me how to get rich by sitting on my ass doing nothing.
To date I have run
Adaware
AVG
Malwarebytes and Malwarebytes JRT
HitmanPro
Spybot
Zemana
Rkill
Emisoft Emergency Kit
I reset Firefox
I uninstalled Firefox and reset my PC to Jan 30
I am at a loss, don't know what to do.

1416523 2016-02-25 07:08:00 redirection from your Hosts file maybe?

Find the numerical URL for this spam site, and see if the hosts file makes any reference to it.

Google will tell you were to find it and how to clean it.

1416527 2016-02-25 20:47:00 1) reset internet/IE to default (in control panel) *** important ***
also reset Chrome & FF to default
2) check that IE/FF shortcuts havent been altered (right click, properties , should be nothing AFTER the .exe)
3) Uninstall all your av/animalware. Install ONLY malwarebytes, update & run again . If you have AV enabled when doing a scan via another programs,
they conflict & block each others scans/cleans)
4) whats your DNS . start, run, cmd, ipconfig . Make sure DNS is a valid & a hacked DNS server .
If DNS is hacked, that causes issues. Could also be a hacked modem/router, thats rar but happens

more info here , may not be of much use though .

1416528 2016-02-25 22:36:00 May pay to disable system restore too before you run adwcleaner. And yup going to dodgy sites wont help. Want a driver, get it from the manufacturer's site

Or find an alternative on another manufacturer's site

1416529 2016-02-26 00:13:00 and you dont need drivers for monitors , (unless touchscreen or some other capability)

the monitor 'driver', was in the past, just a file listing the max resolution etc. Not a drv at all.
