1411284 2015-11-12 18:51:00 Am I a bit dense?
I don't understand the women MPs walking out over Mr Keys comments that the detainees getting shipped back an=re rapists and murderers.

OK, maybe he's not accurate but ?
How is it offensive to women who may have been raped for him to say that?

1411285 2015-11-12 18:55:00 You back the rapists!

That's what people are getting upset about, and the Speaker's failure to make Key apologise. www.3news.co.nz

Note their Victims are of no consequence and not considered.

1411287 2015-11-12 20:43:00 Two good articles that explain this very well:
www.theguardian.com
www.nzherald.co.nz

Our sorry excuse for a Prime Minister keeps perpetuating the myth that there are rapists, murderers, and child molesters amongst the Kiwis on Christmas Island. There are not, and he has known this for some days. However, it is very convenient for him to accuse the opposition of backing rapists (and not only the Opposition - voices against him include National's buddies in the Maori Party, and whatever Peter Dunne calls himself these days. Yes, even Mr Mild himself has come out against Key.

In fact what the people opposing him are advocating for is respect for the human rights of people in detention, whatever they are there for. This is part of our legacy from British law and whether or not we agree with that, as a country we are bound by the International Human Rights Instruments (via the United Nations) to honour human rights. The prisoners of the draconian new Australian regime (and Serco, remember them?) have served their sentences where they have been convicted in court - that and other government and NGO services addressed the victims' rights. This is all happening now after the inmates have completed their sentences. And a few of the people in detention have never been convicted of any crime. They failed a character test.

So my understanding of what the Women MPs are saying is - (my best guess anyway) - "How dare you claim that we are backing rapists? We are the victims of rapists and it is deeply insulting and wrong to say we are supporting rapists. What we are standing up for are the human rights of all of those people who are in detention." They are supported by all of the International Instruments on Human Rights, whatever sentence those people have served.

Key and the Speaker of the House wouldn't pass any test of character at the moment.

1411288 2015-11-12 21:00:00 They are just playing political games and once again trying, with little success, to get a hit on JK. Apart from their close relations nobody in NZ cares about who the Australian government deports. CliveM (6007)
1411289 2015-11-12 21:30:00 Politicians in general act like Idiotic petulant school children when debating things (or maybe just in general).
Key made a stupid remark using unnecessary language and refuses to apologise for it. He could just as easily have said "violent criminals" to make the same point but deliberately chose highly emotive terms for effect.

Meanwhile a whole bunch of politicians get "offended" on purpose trying to make him look bad and make the whole thing focus on the words he used and their own agendas around those issues (however serious they may be, still irrelevant to the topic at hand) instead of focussing on the actual issue they all were supposed to be discussing. Lets not pretend anyone didn't know exactly what he was getting at, even if his choice of words was in poor taste. This kind of BS makes everyone on all sides of the argument look bad.

1411290 2015-11-12 21:48:00 Our sorry excuse for a Prime Minister keeps perpetuating the myth that there are rapists, murderers, and child molesters amongst the Kiwis on Christmas Island. .

but ,
"The list of offences includes manslaughter, armed robbery, grievous bodily harm and assaulting a child or wife with a weapon."
So that all OK then. Obviously . And lets pick just the facts to suit Anti Nat ranting, again.

AND, the Aussies have said that only the worst & the trouble makers were sent there
"Christmas Island detainees living in fear as Kiwis 'bash' weaker inmates"
www.stuff.co.nz
So that OK then. Obviously they are just misunderstood , or something. Not bad bastards at all.

The only mistake the Aussies made, was not putting them straight onto a plane to NZ as soon as their jail time ended (stupid aussies)
Cause thats we often do in NZ .

1411291 2015-11-12 22:10:00 The Headline should really have read:

"Horrible Aussies deny Kiwi Choir Boys Sainthood, and throw them back in jail."

Good on you Aussies, you feed them, we don’t want to. ;)

1411292 2015-11-12 22:17:00 Some very selective references have been quoted here :(

Did anyone else hear Bary Soper's comments yesterday?

He summed up the current situation quite nicely. He argued on facts alone, not personal bitches......

1411293 2015-11-13 00:27:00 Yes I understand he called them all rapists and murderers which is not accurate.
But so what? They are criminals.

I think we should copy and send all our overseas offenders back home.

And "back the rapists", still don't see why the women all left the room.....it's a bit of a w*** statement but I'm still lost....

Yeah....childish MP tantrums over everything I guess. You wouldn't think "important" people could behave worse than a pack of kindy kids.
