2016-02-20 10:33:00 | Hmm I wonder even tho it's been uninstalled and if you've use the removal tool, there are hidden drivers in device manager. Which can happen with some of these AV programs | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2016-02-20 11:17:00 | THAT would be more than likely right. (AVG is even worse) :p If ALL the info is given at the start it sure makes it a LOT easier other wise its guess work. :) DLBeLLMO Run the following commands in Command prompt (admin) one at a time. See if it fixes windows. Since advising Bitdefender problems as speedy posted its more than likely damaged some files. sfc /scannow Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth Note: The Last command above, when it runs it will get to about 20% and appear to stop, this is normal, let it carry on running, it will eventually finish. DONT STOP IT. When was Bitdefender Installed - Precise number of days back if possible. ? Went ahead and reran the uninstall tool for Bitdefender. Restarted. sfc /scannow showed no errors. Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth completed and restored. As soon as it finished, the wireless dropped again. I was using the USB now with updated drives too. When it dropped I checked my services, and the WLAN AutoConfig showed it was off. I honestly have no clue what to do... lol... I restarted after all that... will report back after a nap!

2016-02-20 11:29:00 | It looks like KB3116908 can cause this prob . What version of Win10 is installed now? Is it 10586 . 104? It looks like a corrupt profile can cause it too

2016-02-20 11:49:00 | Run file explorer go to file / help / about windows. If it's under 10586.36, connect an ethernet cable then update it. Then it should work

2016-02-20 19:50:00 | Hmm you're still on the original version. The second link I posted, was for a later version / update that came out in November last year Are you in NZ or somewhere else DL? You could update it the latest version which is 10586.104, but you may have to do a clean install Or you could get the mediacreation tool from here (www.microsoft.com), get the version of the latest ISO then mount it / boot it. Or burn it to DVD. Or use Rufus and extract it to a flash drive

2016-02-20 20:14:00 | Did you tick defer updates where you check for updates? | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2016-02-20 20:47:00 | If system restore was taking hours to run, then that usually means its taking out large files / programs . Bitdefender may have not actually uninstalled . You can try running it again in recovery mode that may or may not work better . To start in recovery mode: Press down the Left Shift key and hold it down, while its down, click start/restart - it will shutdown and you will get the recovery and other some options, select Troubleshoot/Advanced Options / System Restore . It may take sometime, but you should never stop system restore as it will usually corrupt something else, it is altering the whole system ( even over night sometimes) . If Windows updates are not working, you can try to fix them, open a command prompt in Admin, type in the following hitting enter after each command: net stop wuauserv net stop cryptSvc net stop bits ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution . old ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 catroot2 . old net start wuauserv net start cryptSvc net start bits exit Restart the computer and try again . To be honest you really need to get Bitdefender out completely before upgrading to the latest build as it may actually stop it . "IF" something goes badly wrong (as it often can) you may end up with a computer that wont boot into the old or new install ( this is a worst case) Got a persons laptop to pick up tomorrow, this is exactly what happened .

2016-02-20 22:40:00 | Speaking of Bitdefender look at this post on the Norton forum (community.norton.com) I came across this yesterday, when I was on another forum where this file was crashing An update crashed it (360 I think it is) last year. Look at post #5 and 7  Over 3 days there must have been at least 12 hours of remote assistance from Norton and in the end they said there was a "deep seated problem" they couldn't solve and that was it. wtf. They sound like doctors / psychiatrists. They're in the wrong job And Level 2 Norton Assistance couldn't fix it .... they kept updating the graphics drivers for some reason over and over and always to the latest version but no difference. wtf were the tech guys on then

MS support engineers on the insider program are a classic example, someone asks a question and the reply back is either totally wrong, or more often than not doesn't relate one little bit to the actual problem. Its usually generic copy/paste replies -- THEN they say something like - "Hope this helps in resolving the issue. If the issue persists, do get back to us. We will be happy to assist you." :groan: Yeah right ;) |
