1416330 2016-02-21 18:47:00 Here's the thing about Gaming rigs, you can spend $10K+ on an 8 core flagship based machine with 32GB or really fast RAM and Dual or triple 980Tis and a huge SSD etc - the best of everything and maybe it'll play most games maxed out at 4K resolution. Some games it will still need to be dialled back a bit for, 4K gaming is still in it's infancy. Step down to QHD or full HD resolutions and a single Video card is enough and for almost every game out there, coupled with the fact games rarely use more than 4 cores or gain any benefit from the -e processors and suddenly it's difficult to see any difference in practice between that 10K machine and one that costs 2-3K.

If you play some kind of flight sim or similar that needs massive resources or something then maybe it's worth building a machine around that CPU you linked. If you just want to play regular games then any current model i5 or i7 is good enough and you will not gain any benefit from spending all that extra money. As I said google some benchmarks if you have specific games in mind.

As an example, I upgraded my i7 3770 (non K) with 8GB or RAM and a 256GB SSD last August to my current rig just because I wanted to and had the funds saved up. I now have 2 x 500GB SSD's, an i7 6700K, 16GB of DDR4, and the same GTX980 I already had. Care to guess how much better it is? the answer is quite a bit in theory and in benchmarks but exactly the same in practice. It plays the same games at the same framerates and is still limited more by graphics than CPU. My CPU never goes over 50% usage when I'm gaming. I like my new rig but can not tell the difference from the previous one. Currently I'm waiting for 4K gaming on a single graphics card to be viable for my next upgrade.

1416331 2016-02-21 19:21:00 I hear you but this is not a for now build.

My current machine is 5-6 years old and it is only still handling the modern requirements because I didn't skimp when I built it
I need this new one to last about the same time.

I hate upgrading, hate starting fresh with new installs, I don't like building them any more the whole deal
less often I need to do it the better.
