1411357 2015-11-15 21:17:00 Which Pink Flyod ?
The early , middle, later(no Waters) & current eras are completely different . I like the mid-ish era (DSOTM, Wall etc) but dont think much of the other era's stuff.
They were at there best when Waters was at his worst . Solo album, Pro & Cons of hitchhiking was fantastic .

As we get older, with the new bands its often, pfft, heard it all before . And time proves us right as they fade into obscurity :-)
I still like some new bands music, but its often 1 album & then are out of ideas.
What I really dont like is new bands doing cover versions of classics, and the radio thrashing those cover versions. They are never as good as the original , the radio stations just wont play the original version but will thrash the awefull cover version...whats up with that ?

1411358 2015-11-15 21:39:00 There are some great covers around, and new music is about new generations of musicians as much as anything. sure I guess we could try banning them from releasing songs that they like from their own past. Many people would never have heard some of the originals if bands didn't cover them. I'm sure much of the time the version you like more is just the one you heard first and got used to. There are some truly awful covers around though.

When I like a song and someone covers it and says the words differently it bugs me, it just clashes with what you are expecting and can be jarring.

Covers I do like off the top of my head;

Halestorm - all I wanna do is make love to you (Heart)
Disturbed - Land of confusion (is that Phil Collins or Genesis) & Shout (Tears for Fears - never thought much of the original)
Orgy - Blue Monday (New Order) , Love both versions
Type O Negative - Summer Breeze (Seals & Croft) ok mostly I think it's funny, but I do like it
Bad News - Bohemian Rhapsody (Queen) - yeah I'm taking the piss on this one

1411359 2015-11-15 23:30:00 But of course I'm just the lucky owner of Pink Floyd's rare P.U.L.S.E concert on DVD - which features the very first live recording of Dark Side of the Moon. Pure magic. I'd love to share it, and wish I was there to actually share it in those days.
I too have this DVD. Also in my collection is Pink Floyds Boxed Set 1st 11 Vinyl LPs. Only played once and copied off.
This set is 1 of 400.
Loved the Floyds music from my earliest recollections.

Thanks for the kind offer Greg!
She who must be obeyed, might take a dim view of your offer .
Friday night, she watches 3 hours of Coro upstairs and I listen to loud music with a well chilled bourbon .
Life is good

HHhahaha You're welcome.

I have a similar problem with my SHMBO - except I don't have an upstairs nor downstairs to retreat to. Thankfully I do at least have some earphones. But to differ... I prefer scotch - neat with a single block of Eskimo. Stirred, not shaken.
