| 1411081 | 2015-11-08 22:21:00 | It seems to me that people who refer to "M$" and "Windoze" are totally wrecking any claim they may have to objectivity. If you start off with an expectation that everyone's against you then you will easily find justifications for that point of view, however spurious. My own opinion is that while there was probably a time when those two epithets were at least partially justified, it is difficult to justify them now. +1 |

My own opinion is that while there was probably a time when those two epithets were at least partially justified, it is difficult to justify them now. My mother told me not to use rude words in public, so I use those synonyms in lieu of the real words I mutter and think. I realise that M$'s goals are to maximise the flow of funds to executives, directors and shareholders in the short and medium term. My goals for the product are slightly different, except for the fact that I can be just as selfish as them in wanting "all benefits to flow my way and devil take the hindmost". I strive just like them to never give a sucker an even break. I envy them their ability to treat governments with contempt, and make the governments jump on command. (I can do pretty well on the contempt bit, but the jump command appears to be disabled.) Meantime, I am making do with clothes from the Emperor's old tailor. Win 7 is not as fashionable as The W10 New Clothes, nor as fast to don and doff, but for the simple things I need it for, it seems better by and large. For the laptop I'll stick with W10 because fast on/off is a good thing for laptops to do. For desktops, running the programs I want to run reliably is one of the Very Important Features. I still believe W7 to be the best product M$ ever made. W10 is pretty good, but the intentional crippling features are a stumbling block. I don't believe everyone's against me, but I believe it is prudent to be aware that there are some. Obviously I can't say "Most of M$'s products failings are because of incompetence, W10's are due to malice", but I certainly can think it is highly likely. Meanwhile, have a happy day, and may your motherboard not spit the dummy. |
