| 1410974 | 2015-11-05 22:13:00 | I thought they did. Isn't that what Netflix and all those are about? Not really. Its still far far easier to just pirate the stuff (Im not implying thats OK) The whole netflix, amazon, lightbox, hulu thing is all too segmented, and still has region blocking so NZ users officially/legally cant get anything like whats available in US . And much of the content isnt current (in NZ) Im sure many would happily pay $5-$10 to stream a movie rather than download, IF it was available immediately & IF the whole process was easy ie didnt have to sign up to 5 different content providers to get what you want. When I was paying for Sky, If I didnt want to wait 6-12months to view current Sky programs I would have to download despite paying sky fees. TV4 has caught on to this, they often now advertise some popular shows as screening the same week as the US, just to attract viewers who would download otherwise |

The only way to stop piracy is to make it impossible, making it cheap to do things legally will reduce it but not stop it. Unfortunately the studios etc have focussed entirely on the prevention by prosecution and DRM side of things and don't want to look at anything that might reduce their margins. I would disagree somewhat. Sure there will allways be some pirates that would never pay no matter how cheap. Content providers should just write those people off as a lost cause & revenue they would never ever see no matter what. Make it easy & cheap, watch piracy drop & revenue increase. Music is a good example of this. Its now easy to buy...just the song you want...from multiple sources & really cheap . Music piracy is nothing like it used to be . Once was a time when many PC's I'd see in the workshop were loaded up with ripped & copied MP3s . Not so much anymore, nothing like it used to be, most people now dont bother. Anti piracy has been tried & failed going back to the 60's & 70's when music companies tried to have tape recorders banned, then tried to ban VHS/beta . Then they tried to limit/cobble audio/hifi CD Copiers (and ruined that product for the brands who went along with that) . Then they added anti piracy tracks to CD's, so I had to rip & re-burn those CD's so they would actually play in my CD players..sort of defeated the purpose . Then Apple had to really cobble its original IPODs , just to keep the record industry happy. None of that worked. |

| 1410976 | 2015-11-06 00:37:00 | People still pirate music, maybe more than ever. It's now common to hear artists and record companies say they make most of their revenue from tours and merchandising and very little from direct music sales. Perhaps the reason you don't find it on PC's is because it all fits on an iPod or microSD card in a portable device. If you looked at mine you'd find my entire music collection on it (well a backup of it actually, the main copy is on my NAS) I still buy the occasional CD, but I'm in the minority there. Thing is the music industry has not defeated piracy, they've just adapted to it better than the movie industry has and found other ways to make money. The movie & TV industries are still on a crusade to stamp it out. |

Pretty much that was it . Now that money could be for a DVD, money for the phone , a game, a online streaming service, etc etc . There are alot more 'entertainment' formats competing for the same dollar . People simply will no longer pay $20 -$30 for a CD/record that only has 3 good songs on it . Thats why CD sales have plummented . They go to itunes etc & buy the 1 song for a few $ . The market has changed , with a change in generation . The big money is in touring now, bands recognise that . Why do bands like the Stone just go on tour & not put out new records . Some bands even give their music away for free : U2 , Radiohead, & many upcoming bands . Hell , I can get all the music I want, leaglly, on Youtube . Why would I go & buy a CD . I used to buy new CD's or records every other week . Now maybe 2 per year . Like others, I wont pay full price for a Cd thats 50-75% 'filler' . |

| 1410978 | 2015-11-06 02:51:00 | Well i guess the beauty with music is you dont have to watch it. But with movies you do. Music has adapted to the internet well and they are making more money from it than ever. IE spotify etc Movies/TV are not the same and shouldnt be compared but i agree they have missed the boat. Ive tried netfix and amazon but keep going back to just downloading. There is always something they just dont have i want to watch and im not paying for all providers, i just want 1. |

| 1410979 | 2015-11-06 03:45:00 | Yeah kinda, it's by no means perfect, but apparently in Australia as a result of the launch of Netflix they've seen huge drops in piracy rates, I was reading about it just the other day. Will try find source... Yea, since Netflix launched here, I've been downloading much much less content, probably less than 25% of what I used to, just no need any more! A quick TPB search for "YIFY" showed: Displaying hits from 0 to 30 (approx 46045 found) Pitty all YIFY rips have utterly terrible audio quality though, video fine.. but the audio sounds like 2 cats screwing in an over sized gumboot. |

| 1410980 | 2015-11-06 04:27:00 | My opinion? I won't say yay or nay, but I will say it's free-play on the Internet, ie, it could be about time that the movie and audio recording industries recognised that consummers are in fact their best customers. And now they have to adjust their slightly profits after such a glut which they've enjoyed over the previous decades. Boo hoo. It's thanks to the like of many average users who're abled to keep their rip-off prices in check. |

Just read one of Bransons books and he admits that without Tubular bells the album his empire wouldn't exist, that album alone allowed him to start virgin air |
