There's a summer "sport" that should have lots of candidates.

1410753 2015-11-01 23:02:00 Don't you consider sport and entertainment to be part of the community, and a "job"? I do, and the world would be a much poorer place if we didn't have these people able to perform and show their skills for us, individually or as part of a team. I'm sure the rest of the team will get recognition, just not in the form of knighthood, which will be reserved for the leaders. Richard (739)
1410754 2015-11-01 23:09:00 Should sports stars get a knighthood?Absolutely and emphatically yes!

Given that, for example, no-one (to the best of my knowledge) complained when Sir Richard Hadley complained when he was Knighted for services sport-wise to his country, nor were there any complaints (again to the best of my knowledge) were the Beatles for their country.

And considering that more than one prominent psychologist stated how the "feel good" factor helps both our economy and our own personal confidence in the country, to the extent which no politician can achieve. Which of course is why John Key does his best to be associated with this winning team.

And those of us (and even those who don't openly admit it) utterly love the sporting aspect of this country, who feel so inspired by our nation's achievements, simply love our heroes.

1410755 2015-11-01 23:21:00 For what? being good at ball games?

I think most of them shouldn't - seems there's being a politician, making loads of money in retail or whatever and playing games.

Bit of a joke really...

1410757 2015-11-01 23:52:00 To me, it devalues the whole thing .
But I guess, if you look at it historically, thats whats its allways been, just an acknowledgement for being rich or famous.

Where the knighthood for John Campbell ?
Ticks all the right boxes, famous, rich, champion of the less fortunate .

The Beatles got OBE's only, McCartney got the 'Sir' much later .

1410759 2015-11-02 01:50:00 Too late !, the gong has already been given to 4 other all-black captains.

Getting rid of the flag one day and giving out antiquated gongs the next, should also hit the crap pile.

1410760 2015-11-02 17:11:00 Well given the motley lot (some with criminal convictions) that now have Knighthoods, I’d imagine there are a number eligible, but with no desire to join them. B.M. (505)
