1416757 2016-03-01 03:30:00 Not a question but a warning: Some people on Spark if you are using IMAP you may suddenly lose all your emails - Yahoo have a big problem currently.

Just at a customers place, trying to sort out a email problem, nothing wrong with the computer, and the email wasn't downloading from spark send and recieve errors, but OK with clear, contacted Spark, the guy was really helpful, after I comfirmed the settings.

Originally emails that were deleted years ago are suddenly reappearing -- While we were both looking at the web mail - all of a sudden the screen flashed - ALL the emails disappeared, roughly 500 of them - even he said what the ??? Then the customer goes whats going on ?? ALL the emails on her phone from the last year GONE, they were there a minute ago.

Even the guy from spark, who passed the buck said oh YAHOO have got a BIG problem - nothing spark could do.......OOPS!!!

Well no .
Yahoo may have . Not Spark .

I have no sympathy, it's well publicised what a piece of **** Yahoo mail is, people have other options .

1416761 2016-03-01 22:10:00 Spark did stuff up buy getting into bed with yahoo, and now (supposedly) cant get out of the arranged marriage
:)

With this yahoo issue, it may not be happening to all, perhaps just a select lucky few
Thats the way their issues often seem to run .

Thats the way their issues often seem to run . Yep, just a few, as they have a second email account with xtra as well and that's fine.

Just called them to see if all the lost mails are back or not --NOPE, everything that was on the phone is gone including two months of mails that are set to "save a copy on the server" While the mail is working its still not saving on the server, well it is, BUT only for about 15 minutes, comes onto the phones, then its disappearing again from both.

luckily they have the email settings on the main desktop PC set to POP3, and not IMAP.

The guy at spark yesterday couldn't even get his direct line to Yahoo to work, says its just "gone" Gave me Yahoos number and said I would have to call them to sort it out ------- Errrrrr NO!!

1416763 2016-03-02 02:13:00 But, it is so damned hard to get people to change email provider. The number of times I have tried to get people to bite the bullet and get off Yahoo/xtra........

Not to mention trying to get people onto cloud mail rather than locally stored pop3 stuff. I'm the mug who has to manage the export/import of contacts and mail!

1416764 2016-03-02 07:24:00 I have been using Xtra mail since dial up days and have been thinking about ditching this POP3 mail.

Problem is, yes, I can back up my mail (inbox and sent items) to a pst file from Outlook but is there a way to view its contents offline without using Outlook? I have tried a few free apps but they don't live up to my expectation.

What do you suggest?

??
you want to view old emails without using an email client. Its possible, I wouldnt recommend it.

Backup to pst. You can open & close that backup pst at will , from within Outlook
It will show as a separate mailbox (inbox etc) below your active emails. Sort of like the way archive shows in outlook.

or
add a 2nd profile in Outlook, for that backed up pst. When you open Outlook, you choose profile with current email a/c or profile to veiw old email

or , just import the backed up pst into your current email

or, just change the a/c setting to you new email provider. Old emails will stay as is where is in outlook

If you go to imap or 365email, then thats a bit different but some of the above options still apply
