1416189 2016-02-18 22:30:00 I have a little Samsung GT-S5300 Mobile that I have used on the odd occasion to pick up my E-Mails, ( a whole 14 so far).

Anyway I would like to:

1: Delete them from my phone without connecting to the Internet. As it stands with WiFi & Packet Data turned off and it complains it must connect to the internet which of course it can’t and I’m a bit gun shy to turn either on in case it deletes something I want.

2: Delete them from my phone, but leave them on the Server.

The account is with Vodafone (Read clear.net) and is a pop3.

Reading Vodafone’s help page, if I understand it correctly, a pop3 account can’t leave a copy on the server, but I do it all the time with my Laptop, which leaves me confused.

I did see another thread on this Forum along similar lines but have been unable to find it again.

No biggie but any help appreciated. :thanks

pop3 CAN be setup to leave a copy on the server. That sort of setup is used by many, although its not foolproof. Imap is better .
If you setup email to leave a copy on the server, you'll end up with years & thousands of email on the server. Not an issue untill you get a new PC
& the new email program needs to download all that lot.

The phone:
are you sure its a pop3 setup on the ph, not an imap setup ?

Plenty of Android email ph apps, they are all a bit differnet, so ....
you might be able to setup the ph email so that it deletes from ph , but leaves on the server . You'll need to look in the settings of that email app
& see if they gave that option .

Also with Clearnet email.
"maximum storage limit of 100MB (Megabytes)." :banana :banana
I dont think they enforce this mailbox limit, but its mentioned a few times on the support website .

1416191 2016-02-19 02:57:00 Thanks for the link 1101 I’ll follow it through.

I take your points about leaving E-Mails on the Server, but I run a system whereby if I download my E-Mails onto my Main Desktop Computer they are deleted from the server. However, if I download on either of my Laptops, the Mail stays on the server unless I empty my Deleted Items box.

The system works for me and has done for sometime without a problem.

So in short I’d like my phone to work like my Laptops.

In the meantime I still haven’t found a way to delete existing E-Mails off my phone without being connected to the internet. Must be a way surely?????????

I tried on my samsung. One email app would (but complained ) , the others wouldn't.
All mine are imap, so are expecting a sync with server & probably a delete from inbox will delete from the sever when it connects anyway.
I couldnt see the option to delete from phone but leave on server on my 4 email apps.

You can remove all emails safely by removing the email a/c from the ph. I dont think thats what you want .

Easiest way to test , send yourself a test email & play around deleting that . Log into clear webmail to check if its actually deleted from the server when del from phone.
If your ph email really was pop3 then it would(should) del without an internet connection.

1416193 2016-02-19 04:12:00 Thanks again 1101.

I draw some comfort from not being the only one unable to delete E-Mails without being on line.

Let’s hope someone else can show us the way. :)

In the meantime, my main W7 computer has taken it upon itself to shut down of its own accord which I’ll describe in a separate thread. :crying
