1411347 2015-11-13 09:16:00 Hi All.

I have just been Yutubing music on there. Listening to the title bands. Will we ever see the like of them again. I never tire of listening to them PJ

My kids in the school van ask to have the radio on. So, I would put it on to what they wanted and listen along with them. After about 3 or 4 years of this I had never heard a track that I wanted to hear again. Not one has a catchy tune or beat!!!!! So, now the radio is on, and Coast is my station of choice.

What a haunting powerful song that is.

1411350 2015-11-13 19:50:00 I love the two bands you mention, and Mark Knopflers 2012 solo album harks back to older Dire Straits days on many of it's tracks if you are looking for a new fix of that. www.youtube.com
Funnily I never liked Pink Floyd until some time in my 30's, prior to that I always dismissed it as "druggy music" Ayreon are not new and may not be to your liking but have some heavily Pink Floyd influenced stuff, particularly on this album www.youtube.com - check out the guitar sound around 2 minutes in

When I was young my parents always called any new music I happened to listen to some variation of "just noise". I always thought they were just lacking in taste.
As I get older though I find I get more set in my ways and tastes and like less and less new music, although I do still find a new band here and there that I really like.

I think great new bands appear fairly regularly but our tastes don't always change at the same pace that musical style does, everyone has their own personal bands they love and consider classic. Some of them a lot newer than the ones you mention. I think it's just normal human nature to like and prefer the music we loved in our younger days, and to think it's better than what we hear now. Our parents said the same thing about our music in most cases.

My Mum was a huge country fan of artists that are long dead, I am occasionally annoyed to find how much of it is permanently stuck in my memory. I never considered it as good as what I liked and that was mutual, some of those artists though have been popular for longer than even Pink floyd has existed and Mum would never have accepted Pink floyd as music. It's a generational thing.

1411352 2015-11-13 21:28:00 Dire Strait's Sultans of Swing. Off the Money for Nothing album. Irrestible for me. rumpty (2863)
1411353 2015-11-14 20:15:00 But of course I'm just the lucky owner of Pink Floyd's rare P.U.L.S.E concert on DVD - which features the very first live recording of Dark Side of the Moon. Pure magic. I'd love to share it, and wish I was there to actually share it in those days. Greg (193)
1411354 2015-11-14 21:47:00 Another good station getting good reports is "Magic FM". Getting quite a hold on the air waves lately through out NZ. :) BobM (1138)
1411355 2015-11-14 21:51:00 I think we would have to add the Eagles to those two PJ. Also Queen and Fleetwood Mac!

They were great. Close harmony and some great piano and guitar work in their stuff.

Agree. Different tastes, and that what we liked remains with us. There are some good contemporary rock bands today, hear them form my daughter.Even some good middle road rap, which I hear from my nephew. I saw a vid with a black rap singer actually playing the piano quite eloquently. Ice - Cube I think. I heard a polish band playing quite good techno music from ice cast on the internet. If we seek, or listen to sounds from others, can be pleasantly surprised.

i was at the straits brother in arms concert 1980 - I think. Massive crowd, never got a view, but hearing their guitars was enough..
