1484148	2022-02-15 17:46:00	Meanwhile, the Carnival of Fools goes on in Wellington. The heroic few protest their freedom to, er, do something or not do something, and to heck with everyone else. A main thoroughfare is blocked, businesses have had to close, making the already painful effects of the pandemic even worse. The fatuity of the slogans displayed for the cameras is mind-boggling. "Natural immunity is 99.6% effective" (says who?), "Epstein didn't kill himself" (WTF?), "Police we love you", "Hang 'em high", and of course everywhere is "Freedom!" Watching the live feed from the Parliament Grounds I get the impression that under different circumstances, many of the protesters would be ordinary, nice people. How did they get like this? I suppose the tendency to react against being told to do something is part of the natural spread of personality types among humans. Then, a pandemic like Covid-19 is scary, and if you don't have some understanding of how this sort of thing develops (in spite of explanations from those who do understand), then your ignorance can generate fear. Fear can then give rise to anger ("fight or flight") and then rationality gets pushed aside. Most people can work their way through this, but for some it appears too hard. To me, this protest is more sad than anything else. Just a lot of energy being wasted. At a guess you have a secure income and are personally not very much affected by the ever changing and often confusing rules and regulations imposed by the government. Neither am I but I do understand that the people who are have been affected adversely have good reason to be annoyed.	CliveM (6007)

How did they get like this? they choose to believe the rubbish on the internet rather than the majority of scientific opinion . Some people just tend to believe conspiracy theories . " I did my own research" . Really , you looked at nutcase internet websites is more like it . I guess thats just a human trait, to believe nonsense , given how so many believe things that have zero facts to back it up eg : moon landing hoax, most religions , 5G conspiracies , one small group (pick one of the many claimed) controlling the world big pharma , oil companies killed those who invented water powered cars , grey's are with us controlling things , etc etc . . . . . For too many , its just human nature to believe nonsense . No one being forced to vax . If they are the 5-10% who refuse to vax, thats OK, but the 90% will set the rules for the unvaxed .	1101 (13337)

1484153	2022-02-16 02:27:00	We should all be aware by now that what is being reported in our mainstream media, TV and news papers, is only that which has been selected to support the Government and to show the protesters in as negative a way as possible. That is what they are expected to do if they wish to continue to receive millions in cash from the Government. While I don't doubt that there are some idiots amongst the people who are there I find it difficult to believe that the reports of spitting, the abuse of passing people or of faeces lying on the ground are factual without any evidence of any of those things actually happening. It is certain that if any of those things did happen it would be shown on TV. Every man and his dog carries a device capable of capturing video and it would be impossible to keep it secret. Live streaming from the site shows exactly the reverse of what I have seen in the news media.	CliveM (6007)

My understanding is, since then it's gotten worse (only by the minority there) and most of them are peaceful, but the fact remains, those peaceful people have their vehicles blocking all sorts of access edit: the stunned him bit, was tell him I had my freedom too, and if it's like his, can you open your van door so I can take a **** there since you're blocking the road, and it's my freedom to do so	the_bogan (9949)
