1484128 2022-02-10 22:09:00 There was a time when the utterance of such inane jabberings classified the person as mad and saw them tossed in the loony bin until they were cured (or dead.)

They're in the right place then. Just waiting for admittance or commitment?

Ken :) :)

1484129 2022-02-10 22:18:00 If the protesters had been met and treated with some respect it would all be over by now. .

I dont think it would.
There are far too many extremists in that lot to have a rational discussion.
When these protesters resort to throwing eggs at the public , are overly agressive, paint swastika's on public monuments , have workers in fear of their safety ....

they went beyond being treated with respect .
They didnt treat the general public with any respect .

Its honestly time to just say no more .
Act like aholes & we need to put the boot in & sort it out the hard way.
Have a reasonable , peacefull protest & most kiwis will accept (& ignore) that

1484131 2022-02-10 23:16:00 If the protesters had been met and treated with some respect it would all be over by now . For every single person at the protest there are hundreds if not thousands in full agreement with them . Sure there is a percentage of idiots amongst them but mostly they have a genuine reason to be there .

Parliament grounds are a public space at least two of the current Labour Politicians have been arrested for their behaviour at protests there in the past .

Occupy Private Land for an extended period and the Government will bend over backwards to give whatever you want . Inangahua for example . Shelly Bay,Wellington looks to be the same .

I know two of the protesters, and they have admitted they are just going down to cause some **** because they have nothing better to do .

1484132 2022-02-11 00:59:00 I agree with your comment the_bogan. Maybe MSD should take p[photographs and if some of these Protesters are on the dole, then advise them "you are clearly not trying to get employment so your benefit will be cut (or reduced) until such date that you can prove you are actively seeking employment" Neil F (14248)

The whole protest is being streamed live and while there is undoubtedly a few idiots who are trying to stir things up I have seen nothing but a lot of people of all ages and ethnicities who are behaving in a reasonable manner.

1484134 2022-02-11 04:15:00 So Greenpeace, Extinction Rebellion, Climate Change, Anti Trade Agreement, Cyclists wanting their own bridge, Gang Funerals and BLM protests are all just fine but as soon as it is a protest not in agreement with your beliefs it is not . Look up "Hypocrite" in the dictionary!

Incidentally I am not in agreement with anybody preventing others from carrying out their normal lawful activities at any time .

funny thing is they are not doing a protest about anything like what you have mentioned .

the whole protest is about them not wanted to have consequences for their own actions, yet they expect everyone else too . they are the real hypocrites .
they had a choice, they made a decision, now they are bitching about the consequences of their decision .

again, if they where actually "pro-choice" you would not hear anything from them as they would accept their consequences . its only the entitled anti-vaxers that are bitching .

1484135 2022-02-11 05:04:00 But its the hospitals that are killing people , NOT covid . Its the drugs they give them in hospital that cause all the deaths .
Thats what an anti-vax nutter told me . "nobody died from covid" he insisted .

There where allways nutcases, but we now seem to give them the media attention they crave rather than ignore them as we used to .
I heard on the radio one stupid woman saying she left her husband of many years, just because he got a booster shot .

I see they are worried that the protest may be a super spreader . That "stupid woman" you mention also said she doesn't care if she gets Covid and dies . Perhaps her wish may be granted?

1484136 2022-02-11 22:49:00 We have a new breed of celebrity . They're called Covid-19 modellers . They make predictions about case numbers, hospitalisations and deaths . And they get a lot of airtime . And they're usually wrong . Not just a little bit wrong, either .

As has been well-discussed, they predicted 50,000 to 80,000 cases of the virus, a day, by Waitangi Day .
Their outrageous predictions are usually followed by our other celebrity commentators, our government-sponsored microbiologists and epidemiologists, echoing the modellers' warnings and repeating yet again that the Government isn't doing enough to keep the people safe .

Not satisfied with their Waitangi Day error, this week they're saying that we're headed for a million cases . The Prime Minister then chimes in and amplifies the noise by telling the people to prepare for a difficult winter .

Believe it or not, we have business owners sending their people home from work . Others are asking people to work staggered shifts, having been warned that their entire staff could be rendered infected or affected by the virus or associated stand-downs .

In the meantime the city is dying . Cafes sit empty . Longstanding and high-profile businesses that were once institutions in this city, a part of the fabric of our town, are closed . Not just for a few days either . The damage is permanent .

- Bruce Cotterill is a company director and adviser to business leaders .
Yes, we know that Omicron is contagious . But we also know that it's milder than the previous incarnations of the virus . And we know that the rest of the world is getting on with life .

Overseas countries have made the decision to move forward and "live with the virus" .

Meanwhile, our government ministers line up to celebrate our success in having only 54 people die with the virus . It might be difficult to say so, but many of those people were going to die anyway . Not all of them died directly from Covid .

And yet our economy is collapsing .

This week our Australian neighbours have announced that they will be opening up to double-vaccinated international tourists by the end of the month . That means they'll be back in business well before our damaged tourism sector .

Back in New Zealand, despite the outrageous predictions not eventuating, the country remains at the "Red" setting .

At the time of writing, the Ministry of Health website states that we have 10 people in hospital with Covid-19 .

It's this simple . The health system is not at risk of collapsing because of Covid-19 . The health system is at risk of collapsing because it's a shambles .

We have wards closed off waiting for Covid-19 to render them necessary . We are short of doctors, nurses and other personnel necessary to run a hospital .

A close family member needed to go to hospital last week . She spent 16 hours waiting in the emergency department, half of those without a bed to sit on, waiting to see a doctor .

Even then, she saw the doctor only when a family friend with a medical pass to get into the hospital intervened and demanded action . She repeatedly asked why she hadn't seen a doctor . She was told by the well-meaning but clearly frustrated nurse that there weren't any .

And yet we had just 10 Covid patients in hospital!

We seem to be over-reacting and that over-reaction is costing us our businesses and our communities . The celebrity modellers need to re-think their models . They need to remember that, here in New Zealand, we have over 90 per cent of our people vaccinated . It's one of the highest rates in the world . We don't cram our people into underground trains every day . For the most part, we don't live on top of each other in tiny apartments either .

Right now we're the little country that is at risk of becoming irrelevant .

We have to stop frightening our people and embolden them . Someone once said that FEAR stands for "false education appearing real" . How true . We have to get on with life .

going by whats happened overseas expect at least half the population to get it . so thats 2-3 million cases . so "headed for a million" is downplaying it by a lot . places like london the estimates is something like 80-90% have had it .

the reason they get people to work from home etc is so they don't close down when staff at work get sick .
your saying that you would rather have cafe's open than have critical workplaces open . yet those critical places are what supply cafe etc, supply work sites, etc . thats whats happened in aussie where shops where open but had nothing to sell because supply lines where closed .

its also not permanent . remember a lot of those small businesses have a +50% failure rate anyway . a new one pops up tomorrow .

mostly because they have had no choice to . they could never keep it out or they have screwed up things so badly they they now have no choice . they are not NZ .

And yet our economy is collapsing .

yet still better than other countries who "live with the virus" .

because aussie is now on the back end of the omicron wave, they have had months of it already, we are only just starting .

yes its a shambles, it always has been . what do thing its going to be like when omicron rips through? you will die waiting for a doctor .

They need to remember that, here in New Zealand, we have over 90 per cent of our people vaccinated . It's one of the highest rates in the world .

not quite true . we have 90% double vax, but not boostered which is what is needed to keep people out of our pathetic excuse of a medical system .

We don't cram our people into underground trains every day . For the most part, we don't live on top of each other in tiny apartments either .

but we still interact with people, hence the whole point of the minor restrictions the red setting has . even overseas they got forced to employ restrictions as a desperate measure to slow it down, so much for "living with it" .

We have to stop frightening our people and embolden them . Someone once said that FEAR stands for "false education appearing real" . How true . We have to get on with life .

what do you think "living with the virus" actually means?
you seam to think its means ignoring it .
the actual meaning is for people to do their own measures, their own lockdowns etc . which people are already doing by themselves . however it works far better when everyone is doing it .

pretty much all you have said is simply standard anti-vax . "i want money, screw everyone else" .
