1483820 2022-01-25 04:24:00 The professionals say 80%. Who do you believe?.

it depends on which covid your comparing to and if its lab results or real world. also if your comparing stopping symptoms or stopping catching it.

omicron gets around vaccines and natural immunization to a degree making both less effective. but there is also other factors, eg general health, but also things like genetics.
hence real world effectiveness is going to vary quite a bit. so actually numbers is not critical.
at the end of the day its a case of something is better than nothing.

what helps is when you do multiple methods to avoid infection. vaccine does a bit and various social measures does a bit as well.
it all helps.

we are not quite going down the same path.
aussie made a big mistake in some states by starting with minimal restrictions which let it spread far and wide. ie their big bad lockdown was our level 2.
then they kept adding more restrictions but by then the cat was out of the bag. then omicron comes along, so now they have two variants running around. one clogs up the health system while the other kills.

UK made similar mistakes and they are paying for it.

in contrast we are in a pretty decent position because we stomped on it fairly quickly.
i think we will have a much easier time of it than what aussie or uk have had so far.

1483822 2022-01-25 06:35:00 We should just give all our politicians another couple of months holiday. Covid was pretty out of sight for four weeks until they came back to work after their Christmas break. It must like time off too. CliveM (6007)

why is this seen as anti vax and not pro choice? Are we not open minded to think for ourselves to make the choice to vax or not? Im not sure everything is so black / white right / wrong in todays world. There is literature to back up both sides. Informed consent, choice etc

Can of worms there beets...what if (as an example), the choice not to vax means you end up in ICU for 4 weeks at $10,000 a week, paid for by the taxpayer when it could have been avoided by a simple jab?

Why should someone's 'pro-choice' come at a cost of $40k to the country?

Pro-choice is fine, when it only affects you. Othwerwise there's other names for it.

Yip i get that, heres hoping none of us go down that track .

I guess what im getting at it anti vax why not pro choice? why is it if those un vaxxed peeps are always called anti vaxers? the label . Not about making a choice at all . We dont know the reasons why they said no to the vax . Theres lots of reasons to say no, or say yes . But being pro choice does not mean anti vax . . . . . . . . . . I know vaxxers who are still pro choice . not anti vax at all ?

And reguards to the being in sick in hosp and costing $$$ how many have had bad reactions to the vax and costing $$$ as well . ACC are exploding in vax cases :(
sad times for both camps

fundamental difference is pro choice only involves you. anti-vax is trying to con other people with misinformation.

you don't hear much about "pro choice" because they do their thing and thats it.
anti-vax are out recruiting and flock gathering, and typically lying to everyone to achieve that.

the sad thing here is its not new.
many other parts of life suffer the same problem. standard tactic is to make wonderful sounding stuff up, get them on your side, then use the flock to wage war on whatever you dislike. or to sell xyz product (which i see quite a bit of).

it surprising how many kiwis get sucked in by it.
