1484185 2022-02-10 04:51:00 Decades ago I opted to never fly AirNZ -International or Domestic. I remember terrible domestic terminals -walk across Tarmac - no facilities. Ansett arrived and "guess what " suddenly it was possible for domestic facilities to be upgraded- fewer needs to walk across tarmac -plane to terminal bridges available.. For a long time inferior international service. P:atriotism is a two way street not just for AirNZ's benefit. Neil F (14248)

You know in most of the smaller towns you still walk across the tarmac? Even Napier....fenced off by a ribbon....

1484188 2022-02-11 01:40:00 But, I was talking tourists', over 4,000,000 was the last record of numbers coming here.

4,000,000 majority adults over 5,000,000 of us Kiwis' (men, women and children) trouncing our beautiful countryside.

It might be good for our export earnings at No, 2, but isn't our infrastructure more important, Fox River area for one and the Heaphy Track has been closed I believe, but that might be the rain!.

As for those huge tourist liners' dropping off their ablutions at ports of call.

Tourists have to walk across the tarmac too, and get returned to Auckland when pilots can't see out the window.
There were a few Pacific Islanders on my flight, perhaps not tourist, maybe fruit pickers? Going by the conversation they were having......

1484191 2022-02-12 23:26:00 Wouldn't mind a $ for tarmac walking I did in 20 years of air travel, chch/auks 3 times a year. The company I worked for was taken over 6 times, hence the the travel.

This was before the chch airport upgrade. 1973 to 1992 period.

There were not many tourists back then either, black or white, mostly good old working Kiwis'.

On one of those flights back down, we struck one of the biggest air pockets the pilot had ever struck, the air hostess thought I was using a "pick-up" line, when I asked her, "didn't the pilot see that one". Also makes one a bit nervous to travel by air.
