1484098 2022-02-07 19:49:00 The media were very happy to report the prediction of 50,000 case in NZ, thats 50,000 BY TODAY .
No questions asked, no questioning that it was utter BS .

Just the usual scaremongering by the media .
Now they happily report the prediction was nonsense . No looking back at what they reported without questioning it.

Since we are going to open the boarders , and have home isolation, why not do it now. Whats going to be different in a month .
As soon as we open the boarders , expect then to have the big spike in NZ covid numbers .

1484100 2022-02-07 22:29:00 And they conveniently forget to mention that 98% of cases would not know that they had it without the test. Or that for most people it is just a two day cold. CliveM (6007)
1484101 2022-02-07 22:34:00 I don't really see what's changed during the period of the epidemic. We've had various varieties of the virus, various forms of vaccine with questionable but noticeable efficaciousness (but nowhere near 100%), and now the Government is just going to withdraw and let it all happen with a virus that we know is versatile and has unexpected capabilities, because this version has been deemed to be less dangerous than other versions, WHAT ON EARTH IS GOING ON.

I suspect that business pressure is behind this and money perceived to be more important than older citizens and other annoying stragglers.

Citizens as a group need to interact physically as little as possible and stay at home until newer and better vaccines appear on the market whenever that takes place, pity the powers that be are not on board with this idea.

I am the strongest of Labour supporters but I am looking for another party to vote for, unfortunately none available. I want much more caring for people and much less worrying about profit margins and budgets.

1484102 2022-02-08 00:16:00 I am well on the wrong side of 80 but unlike a lot of people I do not expect to live forever. I take all normal precautions to remain healthy but I can see no logical reason for the rest of the population to suffer a restricted life style just to keep me alive for a few more years. Far far more people have suffered adverse effects from the failure to diagnose and treat cancers and other treatable ailments due to lockdown restrictions than have died with (note "with" not "of") covid. In my opinion our Politicians have turned large proportion of our population into terrified and selfish individuals. CliveM (6007)

business pressure, anti-vax have had time to get their hooks in, and simply playing to the idiots.
no shortage of people who are sick of it all and people really not caring about anyone else.
no shortage of businesses people who care more about their wallet than other people.
you only have to talk to anti-vaxxers to see its all "me, me, me, me, screw everyone else".

jacinda has thrown in the towel, screw it everyone is going to get anyway so lets just let it all in the front door.
basically counting on that there will be so many cases of it here thats no one is going to mind all the extras they let in.

simple problem omicron will rip through well before any new vaccine is out to counter it. fortunately its not as bad as previous versions. but hospitalization does go way up and deaths do increase.
so its a case of slow it down so those who need medical care can get it.

trouble is this is not the end, the big question will be what is omicron's kids going to be like.

well its simply not about you.
we have had young people and middle aged people die from it already.
sacrificing yourself does nothing.

this goes right back to the start where oldies thought it would be best to wipe themselves out so young ones could have it better.
well that turned out out to be dumb idea. we had restrictions for a while and we bet it. we did far better than those countries that tried to let it run.
we have been fairly comfortable with almost normal life through most of this pandemic. oldies are still alive, economy is still in one piece. we had far better earnings than other countries.

we have had it really good, yet certain selfish people still complain that we have had it hard and go protesting about it.

Yes.
World discovers new virus.
World panics.
Experts say lockdown, huddle indoors, wear masks, panic.
NZ copies.

World gets vaccinated. Virus mutates, as they do.
World realises it's all good now, starts to open up, quit masks etc.

NZ ...lags. But will copy.

Experts pissed off, still trying with their "modelling says".
