It's not me:

In a report released in late 2021, the organisation said that of the 38 countries touched by the variant, none had reported Omicron-specific deaths.
But recent data suggests the disease Omicron causes is still milder than its predecessors.

Preliminary studies published in the UK and South Africa have found between 30 percent and 70 percent fewer people require hospital treatment.

Cases do not necessarily equate to serious illness nor death.

Apart from the Tamakis and others who resisted vaccination...

but keep in mind omicron only came out late 2021. its only been around ~8 weeks now.
that report would have been in its very early days.
good data is only just coming out now.

.

correct.
however you have to factor in that there is far more cases and they all arrive at once. it spreads fast if you let it.
it will very easily overwhelm our health system, i'm sure you know how good our health system is.
those who require treatment may simply not get it.
hence why they want to slow it down by not allowing it to spread so much.

the other thing to keep in mind is omicron gets around vaccines and natural defences. by mem the vaccine, without booster, is down to ~30 effectiveness.

...

Even if you are fully vaccinated, with the Booster shot, it still doesn't mean that you are 'fully protected'! Far from that! Consider yourself lucky if you get 50% protection.

Of course, you are much better off than those who are NOT vaccinated. That's the point, here!

1483814 2022-01-25 01:26:00 And the symptoms are:

The top 5 symptoms were:

runny nose

headache

fatigue (mild or severe)

sneezing

sore throat

While Omicron may feel more like a cold to many of us, it can still hospitalize and kill some.

Yes and so did the respiratory illness my husband got, because of his underlying health.

Well, doesn't really matter whether it's 100% or 80% or 50% or 30%, or even zero % as some believe.

Believe whatever YOU think it's true. :)

There is that much BS on all sides of the argument that it is not possible to be certain just what is actually true!

1483817 2022-01-25 03:03:00 Believe that a virus that has had its methodology of infecting mammalian tissues, especially lung and respiratory cells, refined by thousands of years of living amongst bat colonies who have the strongest known mammalian immune system, for exactly the same reason, ie being stressed and refined by the virus, is quite likely to run roughshod over any organism which has not been infected by the virus before. The virus is likely to have many methods of infecting and modifying its attack.

At some point the virus modified itself enough to be able to infect humans and other mammals as well. Maybe experiments made by military interests known as "gain of function experiments" let to this capability, it doesn't matter how it came about though because it's amongst us and sickening reasonable numbers of humans quite successfully.

So far all our counters ie vaccines and altering behaviours have met with limited success.

How true do you think the above is, CliveM? Especially since this type of virus infecting humans has been mooted for a while now.

1483818 2022-01-25 03:15:00 Continuing: "Especially since this type of virus infecting humans has been mooted for a while now". This is because of the huge increase in population and the ease with which we are able to move around the world, airplanes etc, plus humans interfering with all types of wildlife in all sorts of situations not seen previously in our history. zqwerty (97)
