568830 2007-07-13 07:21:00 OK, serious problem here between Nvidia 8800 GTS 640MB & X2900XT. I got a tough decision to make here between the Albartron Nvidia 8800GTS 640MB and Sapphire ATI X2900XT.

:( Please guys I'm not joking around here, it's July now and I havn't heard of any drivers from ATI that has magical power except power consuming card. Now I'm getting worried.

I going to use Gigabyte GA-P35-DQ6 MOBO for using X2900XT, and if 8800GTS I've to pick 680i MOBO from Gigabyte.

Of course, picking Nvidia chipset will make me miss out on Peryn upgrade later, yes very tough decision indeed.

OK, my needs is watching ATI Demos at full resolution, and does anyone think Nvidia 8800GTS can do it? As you know I have no idea whether Ruby Whiteout will work on 8800GTS 640MB or not.

And not only ATI comes with the graphics card, but it comes with the Black Box too where Nvidia does not.

I hope you guys can give me some answer.

568831 2007-07-13 07:51:00 If ATi can do it, I don't see why nVidia can't.

I'd personally go for 8800GTS, and a P35 motherboard. At the moment I can't see ATi fighting back, so for now I'll stick with nVidia, despite their poor drivers for Vista.

568832 2007-07-13 10:02:00 Yea a real serious problem you've got there :D

Anyway from what I've heard and read the ATI is a waste of money.
It uses a lot more power for a lot less performance.

568833 2007-07-13 10:03:00 :horrified Can't believe it there's no true winner between X2900XT and 8800GTS 640MB graphics cards . I've read many reviews and that can't help me much .

There are pro and cons for both cards .
ATI got rooms to improve while Nvidia's one was not much to improve anymore, and I wonder how am I going to use the built in audio decoder on that X2900XT .

568835 2007-07-13 10:29:00 Wait for the next gen cardsWait for another gen? I already skip the X1000 series, and I need it very soon as you know I need it for my new PC. Some parts have already arrived.

Anyway, I've seen some forum people wanted to sell their GTS away for an XT.

568837 2007-07-13 11:24:00 I recieved my XFX 8800GTS 640MB XXX Edition today and so far it is AMAZING!!!! :D

The 2900 uses LOADS more power, it is larger and generates more heat...

8800GTS FTW!!! :D

And why the hell do you want to watch demos? :waughh: these sorts of cards are not for little kiddies... they are for serious gamers...

And what do you mean not much room to improve???? I have seen a 1GHz core GTX!!! and my 600MHz core, 1900MHz RAM and 1500MHz shader GTS is really something and it is FACTORY.

And yes as Jo suggested wait for next gen, it is obviously what you will do seeing as you have been TALKING about it for the past 6 months? My GTS is only a stepping stone to allow me to play the likes of Bioshock at decent FPS till the nVidia 9 series :D

Ah, Half-Life game worked so well in X2900XT no wonder I love the black box bundle, and yay it means I'm getting X2900XT and it is no shame owning it. Oh yeah, I'm going for full resolution too with the Whiteout Demo, if it lags I'll save or throw in more mem to make it 4GB total.

If I get the 8800GTS 640MB I can save up quite a lot, I mean cheaper card, Antac 900 case, and cheaper power consumption, but X2900XT is a beast with flame power who can resist it.

Hey EOR, don't you wanna return that card? I mean read the review I've given.

Talking about past 6 months? Oh yeah, I was just waiting for X2900XT that time and Q6600 bargain deal that's all. It's all about planning.

And thank you all for participating in this topic, 8800GTS vs X2900XT is a close match but sometimes X2900XT can even out run GTX. And the truth lies in performance result test.

568839 2007-07-13 11:40:00 Depending on the nVidia motherboard model/revision it may support 45nm as most of them are natively supporting 1333mhz now. But it is more hit and miss at the moment because there is no straight answer. trinsic (6945)
