568558 2007-07-12 23:38:00 Hi Im having upload problems with XP operating system to load files to my server for web pages. Using ME2000, Win98, and the old 3.11 was never a problem. Ive no experience with Vista on this matter yet.
I heard that a Sunsoft addon for XP was necessary. But which addon is not clear? Or is it a configuration problem? Any ideas? :help: Ta

568559 2007-07-13 02:15:00 Well we'd need to know how and with what you are uploading these pages.

I use an older version of cuteftp, WinXP and have no problems.

568561 2007-07-13 06:09:00 Welcome to PressF1 M Lui :)

Can you explain more on what your problem is? (As we are having a hard time understating what your problems is) (Can you not upload files?, does the files do not show up on your server? etc…)

Can you tell us what this "Sunsoft addon for XP" is?

Can you tell us who you’re uploading your files to?

Note: I have XP & I can upload files to servers fine (I use SmartFTP, a older version of cuteftp, an a older version of WS_FTP Pro)

PS: Are you in New Zealand?

568562 2007-07-13 08:06:00 if you really enjoy the command line, xp has a inbuilt ftp client go to a cmd prompt and type in ftp then at the ftp> type in help beama (111)
568563 2007-07-14 11:03:00 Uploading files to a server is pretty much operating system independent since it uses FTP (part of TCP/IP which is OS independent). Problems usually boil down to firewall issues or settings in the FTP client. Whatever the problem is, I doubt if it is XP's fault. johnd (85)
568564 2007-07-15 23:04:00 Really appreciate your various comments
I need to try what you suggest.
but first to answer your questions
I believed my problems was either the firewall(Zone Alarm) blocking FTP commander this I enabled to access the net
Or some way I had XP configured.
What happened and worked with older OS (Win3.11, Win 98 & Me2000) I used run Win explorer then more recent times Powerdesk;
- after accessing my pages on my server with Netscape
I would use either directory system to drag & drop the files to be uploaded - onto the open Netscape displayed directory of my pages on my server, this successfully worked opening a window showing the upload time progress. But with XP dragging & dropping a file across to the Netscape view of my server frustratingly opened and displays the file in Netscape instead of uploading.
As for more recent attempts with FTP Commander - it simply failed to respond to uploading the files asked of it, as if there was nothing there. Result no upload at all.
All sucessful uploads in the past were from desktop computers, and all atempts with XP were from a laptop, I would just love not to have to rely on the old desktops for the process

Someone recommended that since some Javascript was present on some pages that I needed an addon such as:
Sun Java[tm] System Application Server AddOns 7 *Update 5*(SUNwaspx.zip) , I looked at all this but didn't attempt installation as I wasn't convinced.
What I will do:
To install Cuteftp and give it a go as I have happily used other Cute products, check on the FTP client setttings

(Btway - I live on the Kapiti - Horowhenua coast but travel other parts of NZ frequently)
Thanks again to all
