568429 2007-07-12 06:15:00 OK> . . . My ISP Verizon is trying to have me install a newer and free DSL modem that has a NAT capacity built-in as stated on the box .

I don't know what that means either . . . but here's what's happening .

I was running a Westell Wirespeed® DSL modem, with a Linksys BEFSR41 Router, handling three computers, all XP-Pro w/SP-2 and all the updates . . etc . . . successfully!

That modem worked well, but had a lot of trouble when I get hit by some obscure RF from what Verizon says is uncontrolled high-magnitude signals from a secret ESL antenna that doesn't exist and they can't talk about it .

This has been going on for 5 years . . . and I get blown off line regularly every weekday morning at about 06:30 thru 09:00 . Weekends so far are OK .

Intermittent loss of sync happens sometimes in the early evening and without notice, but never for hours at a time like the morning problems .

OK . . enters the new modem . . . but I cannot get any sync or a correct ipconfig with it in C:\prompt no matter how I try . Pings to Yahoo! (66 . 94 . 234 . 13) and Firefox (66 . 94 . 234 . 13) for example cannot be resolved, therefor no connection .

127 . 0 . 0 . 1 and 127 . 0 . 0 . 2 all work OK .

It won't work with or without the router either . I suspect it's that NAT thing that's messing with me .

Even though the router is installed and WON'T go online, it can share files with the other puters as I set it up . . . . and I find that strange too .

I use Network Connections AUTO detect, tried the install Linksys cd . . and it says there's NO INTERNET CONNECTION with that new modem in the first 1/2 of the instructions while the router is not yet in the system .

I CAN set it up and get it to run with the CD-rom with any of the other modems I own . . . . and I have tried several .

Using ONLY hard-wired here, no wireless or WIFI at all .

None of the ones I CAN get running have that notification of a NAT installed in them . . . but the one that doesn't work won't go online at all .

Is it the NAT that causing the trouble?

568430 2007-07-12 06:28:00 Have you tried entering the DNS server of Verizon in to the modem? ( to see if you can get anywhere) stu161204 (123)
