568341 2007-07-12 05:59:00 Well if you're planning on getting another PC, you might as well put XP back on the one you put Vista on.

Either way, you'll have to spend money for the PC u have now, since there are
no drivers for it. If you're going to keep Vista on it.

The sound may have been going when XP was on it, but Vista most probably killed them. After u upgraded to Vista

568345 2007-07-12 06:33:00 Well the only way I think you're going to get the sound to work is install XP back on it, and forget about Vista.

You should have checked whether the system had Vista drivers, before u installed it.

568346 2007-07-12 07:39:00 If the sound has worked with Vista it should work again. How, exactly, does Vista "kill" sound cards?

Try the "add hardware" wizard. Tell it to look for a sound card. Surely Vista should have "generic" drivers for AC97, or for reasonably modern Compaq computers.
