568008 2007-07-12 22:50:00 Besides...new HDDS come with a cd to get the old data off the bad drive if it's not too far gone, and you can even send Windows to the new drive too....there will be instruction on the disc that comes with the new HDD.

Don't bother running the detection or testing software..it might just aggravate the problem and make it all worse in the end too. There's a lot of head work for a diagnostic and than might just be the coup.

You may or may not have a real problem, but it's not good to dismiss the information...it might be right!

It's funny, I've actually never seen a retail hard drive . With a CD and stuff like you mention . I'm not sure we get them like that in NZ .

That, or I just don't go to computer shops ever (physical ones) .

568010 2007-07-13 04:50:00 Wow . . I've gotten them with all the HDDs I've ever bought . . . let me look:

Western Digital, Seagate, SanDisk . . . yup . . they all have them . Got them all in my DRIVERS CD case for when they are needed .

I never let the Windows Wizard just install drivers and such . . . . I want the latest and all the tools off the CDs that the factory provides .

Hi SJ
Can you point us in the right direction to download these CDs
Sounds like a great thing to have,
Im chasing a problem with a Seagate 20Gb drive that BIOS sees as 20 GB but will only format thru XPPro as 2 . 01Gb Go figure

Cheers

568012 2007-07-13 05:51:00 I don't see any problems with even sending copies, as there's no warning about it on the cds anyway .

I wonder if they are available online?

I think this is WD's Data Lifeguard Tools area: . wdc . com/download/" target="_blank">support . wdc . com

Let me look for Seagate/Maxtor stuff:
. seagate . com/www/en-us/support/downloads/" target="_blank">www . seagate . com

Since you either have or about to buy a HDD in one name or another, I think it is a good idea to get the whole package anyway . . . let me know what you need . . I could copy them . . .

This is much like the SP-2 disc that was needed for XP . . It was copyrighted, but they said you can send copies to others with XP if they didn't have one .

Maybe I could send them to a central figure like Sir Speedy for use in a lender's library for NZ'ers . Strange youse guys don't get them though . . . !
