567849 2007-07-11 05:03:00 Just for my info, what's the reasons for deleting all the previous versions of Java? When Java is doing it's updating (automatically), doesn't it uninstall the older version first? Any special reason for turning off the auto update in Java?

Because if u leave previous versions installed (even if u get the latest version and install it). If the previous version/s have vulnerabilities, you'll get it whether the latest version is installed or not.

And NO the latest version doesnt uninstall the previous version/s.

(Altho I've unticked the automatic updating, but I doubt that it'll uninstall old versions).

I just disable auto updating. The icon on the taskbar gets annoying!

Thats why u have hands and a mouse.

567850 2007-07-11 05:09:00 Lol, thanks Speedy, did everything you said in here. Had V5 U11 or something, now V6 U2.

One thing I don't get is firstly, I didn't have a Application Data\Sun folder.

And what was the point of getting the latest version, deleting the folders, then getting the latest version again? I did that and the second download/install, it just asked me if I wanted to install over the first download of the latest version. What gives?

567851 2007-07-11 05:14:00 Well u dont HAVE to delete the folders.

No harm if u delete them. Or leave them.

If show hidden files or folders isnt enabled, you may not see

Application Data\Sun folder. As its normally hidden.

567852 2007-07-11 05:17:00 That explains why. Guess I'll leave it there anyway, it's not like 10gb or anything stupid is it? :P --Wolf-- (128)

Eh nope.

I just checked its about 13.7mb and the Java folder in program files is about 69 mb.

567854 2007-07-11 05:54:00 Hi all

As listed by FoxyMX I closed all the browsers, went to Add/Remove and clicked on J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 4 and then clicked "Remove"

I then got a message "Internal error 2753 RegUtils" and when I click on "Ok" another little window appears "Fatal Error during Installation"

How can I get around this so I can delete all Versions of Java

567855 2007-07-11 06:19:00 It looks like Teatimer (part Of Spybot) can cause this error.

It could be blocking access to the registry.

If this is running in the background kill it. Then try again.

And if Webroot Spysweeper is running kill that too.

567856 2007-07-11 06:43:00 Okay Speedie. Thanks for your reply.

I didn't know whether Teatimer was running in the background, so I removed Spybot completely. Then tried to delete Update 4 in J2SE again but with the same result as before. Haven't Spysweeper installed at all so that cant be part of the problem.

So where to from here??
