2007-07-16 06:05:00 | Lately my firefox/internet in general has been extremely odd, I'd say more laggy than slow. I've run virus, spyware tests all the usual but now I checked two speedtest sites and my downstream is 0 on both, and upload is 230, which is just under half of what I normally should get. When browsing multiple windows in firefox, clicking on the "open a new window" will open one visually, but it will take around 5 seconds for the actual window to be displayed on the taskbar, meaning until then, you can't switch back to the previous window as it seems to have "taken over it" Some sites are really messed up too, sometimes task bar type things are all over the place etc. The only thing(s) I have downloaded recently are Zonealarm Secuirty Suite, NOD32 anti virus (trial atm) and Spyware Terminator. Could any of these be causing the problem? EDIT: Just noticed everything is visually 'opening' before appearing on the taskbar, eg iTunes etc.

2007-07-16 06:20:00 | I take it Internet Explorer shows the expected downstream speed when tested? Have you tried running Firefox in Safe Mode? This will disable all your themes/extensions and could help pinpoint where the problem is. Edit: just noticed your edit comment. So this happens with non-broswer programs as well? Have you tried logging onto the computer under a different profile and seeing if the problem persists?

2007-07-16 06:37:00 | IE gave me the proper downstream speed I expected. I have not tried running FF in Safe Mode as I have no idea how, and the few add-ons I have, I have had for quite some time, but will try if I figure out how. Yes, this even happened with a notepad. I would try logging onto the laptop under a different profile, but I only have one (me/admin) and I think guest is disabled. Will I need to create another profile to try this?

2007-07-16 07:09:00 | I checked two speedtest sites and my downstream is 0 on both The only thing(s) I have downloaded recently are Zonealarm Secuirty Suite, This in particular can occur because ZA blocks it. Especially on www.nzdsl.co.nz speedtest.

2007-07-16 07:51:00 | I'm getting the impression you have two different problems here. Could you explain in more detail what you meant by "sometimes task bar type things are all over the place". To start Firefox in Safe Mode, you should be able to find this option under the "All Programs" menu and the Firefox folder. To see what happens under a different profile, just create a new one for testing purposes and log on with that. You can remove it once you have finished.

2007-07-16 08:22:00 | Lets take PF1 for eg...at the top where it says home, blog etc. Lets say it had a little logo at the front of that bar, in some sites any pictures up there end up getting repeated all across the bar, making the words hard to read. Will try safe mode and a different profile.
