2007-07-15 21:52:00 | Hi all My computer has started to turn it's self on after I have shut it down. Last night I shut it down 3 times and each time it waited about 60 seconds and then turned it's self back on? It didnt turn back on when I turned of the modem. That has me worried. I have done a full system virus scan (CA with latest updates) and scanned for spyware etc and it was all clear (a few low threat spyware cookies, now removed) So does anyone have any idea why this happened? Many thanks Meg

2007-07-15 22:05:00 | It is a stand alone pc and no phone calls (it was after midnight) | meg_h_nz (6960) | |
2007-07-15 22:11:00 | Hmm, well it cant be a dialer, since the system would have to be on, for a dialer to dial out (if you're on dialup that is). Does this mobo support booting by pressing a key on the keyboard?? Like the space key? Some mobos supports this.

2007-07-15 22:17:00 | I am on BB. I have had this pc for nearly 3 years and this is the first time this has happened. There is no "boot by key" option that I know of ??? How could I find out?

2007-07-15 22:17:00 | If the modem is connected by ethernet cable then I would check the BIOS for the Wake on LAN setting and disable it. | CYaBro (73) | |
2007-07-15 22:32:00 | just checked my BIOS settings. There is no "wake on LAN" option. It does however have: PME event wake up.......enabled Power on by ring...........enabled all other settings (power up by key etc) disabled ????????? If power on by ring means that the pc turns on when the phone rings(??) then it would be turning its self on all durring the day, and would have no reason to turn its self 3 times in a row within minutes after midnight with the phone not ringing???? :waughh:

2007-07-15 22:37:00 | PME event wake up.......enabled Power on by ring...........enabled Disable both If power on by ring means that the pc turns on when the phone rings(??) then it would be turning its self on all during the day, and would have no reason to turn its self 3 times in a row within minutes after midnight with the phone not ringing???? :waughh: Power on by ring may only work with a dialup modem not a BB modem. Is a dialup modem installed as well?
