569507 2007-07-17 00:22:00 I can do the excel basics and some visual basics but I would like to go further eg set up a database with form type inputs. The hope is to protect the data from others, allow multiple inputs and monitor trends with charts etc.
Problems - windows help is hard to follow; thus can anyone recomend some books or web based tutorials etc. I havent any time to follow formal courses but I like to think I can learn rasonably well and fast (within my typing speed).

569511 2007-07-18 09:30:00 Excel is a spreadsheet that does have some database features. My suggestion is that you start using a relational database right from the start - this will save the frustration when you find eventually that Excel does not do all that you want. Just a suggestion! johnd (85)

569513 2007-07-18 11:14:00 Hi Shane

Excel *could* do this and there is a very simplistic example of an Excel database with a form here (www.mrexcel.com) - but if you are wanting to effectively create a relational database then I agree with the previous comments that a purpose-built database like Access would do the job better.

569514 2007-07-18 22:10:00 Hewlett Packard used to provide excellent free online beginner and advanced tutorials for many popular software products. Unfortunately I don't have the links anymore, but PressF1 user FoxyMX (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz) should be able to help. Greg (193)
569515 2007-07-20 06:13:00 hey thanks guys. The more I look the more I think I should start from scratch using Linux. I have trolled the local library been offered miracles over the net in exchange for my credit card details etc etc. I can probably just do what I want with Access by the looks of the readings i have gathered....A weekend and some beers and we will see.

Thanks from Shane
