570066 2007-07-18 22:40:00 Recently reinstalled Windows after I had no choice because of a fataly damaged C:

Now after opening and checking Outlook Express, all my emails have vanished. I've still received recent new ones, though. I only have 3 atm, when I originally had over 20.

Is there any way to get them back? Also if you know how, how do I view attachments that are greyed out and unclickable?

Thanks!

570067 2007-07-18 22:43:00 If you did a full reinstall of XP it would have wiped everything off the hard drive... wratterus (105)
570068 2007-07-18 22:48:00 yeh if you did a full reinstall then EVERYTHING that WAS on the pc will no longer be there.......all gone ! as for attachements it's most likely just OE's stupid security crap.....open OE and goto tools/options/security and Untick the 'block attachements' and etc.... drcspy (146)
570069 2007-07-18 22:50:00 it MAY be possible to retreive stuff that was on the pc's drive if you are usign the same drive, however the chances of that retreival being successful drop dramatically with every moment you use that drive........it really needs to be removed from the pc and slaved to another system then a file recovery program run on it........ drcspy (146)
570070 2007-07-18 22:52:00 Yeah, also depends on how you formatted the drive when you installed windows. If you did a quick format as drcspy said it's possible that some data is still there. wratterus (105)
570071 2007-07-18 23:38:00 No I didn't do a quick format. I just did the NTSF.

My computer still has all video's and photo's, though. So maybe it just wiped all the things off the C: only? Because that was the problem and the one I selected to repair during the Windows setup. My photo's and all that were on the D:

570072 2007-07-18 23:45:00 ahh. in that case everything that was on the c: will now be long gone :dogeye: wratterus (105)

Oh that's a shame. They were my dads emails and he knows about it, hoping there is some way to get them back. Obviously not. So is there no way? I've been on Google for over 2 hours now. And reading all OE topics here.

I have a new problem now. I was about to open OE and got the standard error report.

''Outlook Express has encountered a problem and needs to close bla bla bla....''

Whenever I click on either button another one comes up. What gives? I've done it about 20 times now. And even tried stopping it in the task manager.

Edit: It's gone now. Weird....

570074 2007-07-19 00:47:00 IF during the setup you selected 'repair' then you should not have lost ANY data at all......that would leave yoru pics/emails / settins/progs etc there but just reload windoze over the top.......thus theres not any good reason why your emails have gone.......do a search thru the system for *.dbx files.....and if you find any open OE and import them those are the database store files that OE uses to store all your data......it's possible that the system has 'lost' them.....also possible since you didn't detail what the exact original problem was that a bad file system error has resulted in the system losing some of your stuff even thru a repair install..........

if you did a clean install even with a FULL format theres still a possibility that the data could be retreived but EVERY time you use the pc that possibility becomes more and more remote

570075 2007-07-19 11:48:00 Okay I've had to reinstall Windows again. And logged on with everything that was here yesterday, there. So that's a relief. And it came up with a message it was my NVIDIA graphics card that caused the instability.

But now this stupid message keeps randomly popping up saying for me to visit this site because it's found 55 critical errors, and that I need to visit and get a registry cleaner. Every 10 seconds or more. Very annoying.

Is it just targetting my CPU or is it for real?
