571458 2007-07-22 11:07:00 Hi Team

I want to download a short series of videos but haven't found a downloader that works. The first two simply failed to start the download and the third downloaded so slowly that it would be hours before I got just one saved.

What downloaders do you recommend?

Cheers

571459 2007-07-22 11:11:00 There was a post discussed here a while back about a downloader that worked off YouTube - around the beginning of the year I think.
YouTube now uses H.264 codec too.

571460 2007-07-22 11:16:00 I use videodownloader, Its an extension for Firefox (no idea if you are willing to have firefox installed) shows up as a tiny icon, all you do is click it when on a page that has the video you want.

Has worked on every video I have wanted from youtube.

The downside is you have to rename the file, but I re-encode them into a more popular format as soon as I get them with super encoder, only takes a few seconds.

571461 2007-07-22 11:20:00 Regarding speed, I use flashget.

(again with the Firefox)

After I have fired up video downloader and the DOWNLOAD button has apeared, I right click it and select download file with flashget.

This also requires another firefox extension in order to intergrate Flashget into Firfox, The extension is called flashgot....

571462 2007-07-22 11:51:00 I use Youtube Grabber. You just copy and paste the url into it and it downloads the video to your desktop. I have found the odd video won't download. I suspect they have some sort of copy protection on them to stop you from downloading them. I use FLV Player to play them.

Has a nice bookmart shortcut which lets you simply click on it when you are on any Youtube page.

571465 2007-07-23 03:09:00 Thanks guys, I'll have to pass on the Firefox options but that still leaves choices.

With prices going down on CPUs it looks like it is time for me to get my new PC at last and move into the fast lane and get enough processing power to play with video. I am a confirmed Intel user and I'm thinking of going right up to hottest sub-$500 core-duo chip before the big price leap to the $1000+ versions.

That should last me a fair while, I got my present computer built when a PIII550 was the hottest on offer and W2K was new so it has to be about 6-7 years old now.

Cheers

OK, so Zamzar is refusing to play nicely!!

I go through the process of entering the URL for the file, choosing the format and supplying the email address then at the next step it tells me I have to UPLOAD a file before converting. I thought this program converted downloads on the fly, or am I mistaken there?
