571425 2007-07-22 09:56:00 My motherboard has sata 2.

Can I run a sata 1 hard disk on it?

I want to get a Raptor 10,000 rpm disk. will it run on my comp. in company with 2 sata 2 7400 disks?

571427 2007-07-22 11:58:00 I have been told unless you are moving small files a Sata 2 is just as quick as a raptor. Raptors are expensive though I relise money is no problem to you Jack.
Sata 2 500g $251. Raptor 150g $439.
Trevor :)

571428 2007-07-22 13:15:00 The 150gb Raptors are faster, WD tweaked the firmware. SATA 2 is a load of bollocks, whats the point in a faster interface if your drives cant saturate the existing one? The only benefits of SATA 2 drives is that they also happen to have more cache and NCQ. Raptor FTW Pete O'Neil (6584)

571432 2007-07-22 22:11:00 So what are you going to do when FsXI comes out? pctek (84)
571433 2007-07-23 05:47:00 it's true there's currently no benefit from SATA II, guess pc manufacturers are trying to future proof with the standard, just like how the first pci-express cards weren't any better than AGP at the time but who'd go back now?

As far as I know they still have'nt built a single drive that could max out the old ATA 133 bus let alone SATA I or II, but it'll happen one of these days
