571318 2007-07-22 04:25:00 I just put an athlon XP 2600+ into my computer to replace my 2000+ to make it a bit faster until I get a new computer.

I flashed my BIOS to the latest version (I have a Gigabyte GA-7VA revision 1) but the computer only works when I set the switches to 100 or 133mhz FSB. I don't get any display on my monitor when I use any other setting.

There are 2 switches for the FSB but the manual only tells you about switch 1. On is 100mhz & off is supposed to be auto, but it goes to 133 instead of 166. When I change switch 2 (default is on) my computer doesn't boot.

571319 2007-07-22 04:37:00 Did you try the new CPU before you "flashed the BIOS to the latest version"?

You should install a new version of BIOS code if the new version fixes a problem which occurs on the particular computer.

Why not "flash the BIOS" to the previous version? :D

571320 2007-07-22 04:39:00 Sounds like the other PC here. By default its 266/133.

You can either set it to 266 or 333 (but not 400), I didnt know this till I dl the manual lol. No wonder the mobo was cheap (it was only the mobo, no manual).

But if I set it to 333 and 166 it wont boot either. The same as what youre seeing. I have to take the jumper off the the mobo to get it to boot again.

So, I just left it at 333 and 133. It shows 333 on the post screen.

571321 2007-07-22 04:43:00 the bios my motherboard ships with doesn't support the 2600+ CPU. I checked that before swapping the cpu. If it did, I wouldn't have risked the flash.

Could it be a power problem? I have a 350w PSU, 1 SATA hard drive, 2 IDE hard drives & a Geforce 6600 GT

Edit: probably not a power problem. still does it when I unplug both my IDE hard drives

571322 2007-07-22 05:13:00 I picked up the wrong CPU  It wouldn't work at 166mhz FSB because it is an 1800. I'll probably have more luck with the 2600.

This is what happens when you tidy up spare parts
