570892 2007-07-21 06:03:00 Hi there. In 2003 a bought Norton2002 and used it with annual renewals since. Now Simantec don't let to renew anymore. l can get Norton 2006 for for 30 dollars or Norton 2007 for 60 dollars. l recon will have to renew both next year, So why to buy Norton 2007?
Meanwhile downloaded AVG free, bat it tells me that connection to server failed, while it was not. Norton was disabled so it did wot interfear.
But l could read may emails from IE webmaie.
Now, with AVG free I have to check virus definition updates every time l go on line. It can be a problem if I forget and there is new virus.

Any comments, guys?

570893 2007-07-21 06:12:00 AVG can be set to do it automatically. Most people on this forum wouldn't touch Norton's if you forced it on them.

570896 2007-07-21 07:14:00 If its only a choice of those 2 then AVG.
If not, then NOD32.

570897 2007-07-21 08:05:00 I am not really sure of my facts here. But if you get the "Paid" version of Nod or AVG, arn't the updates automatic? Like Microsoft ones are?? PJ Poppa John (284)
570898 2007-07-21 08:27:00 I meant free copy of AVG. Payed would cost around $80.
the question about Nortons 2006 or 2007 was purely theoretical. Just was curious.

570899 2007-07-21 08:55:00 I personally didn't find much of a difference between the free version and the paid version of AVG.

I didn't like NOD32 much, interface sucks and the updates weren't the best imo.

Don't touch Norton, and go with the free ver of AVG.

570900 2007-07-21 12:03:00 free avg works well and as for updates you just have to configure it when you install it....... drcspy (146)

So....you formatted the system to disable Norton?, Or uninstalled it, then manually spent a few hours killing off services, deleting files, unregistering .dlls, editing the registry?

anything less does nothing.
