570915 2007-07-21 05:25:00 Take it back for a refund. That would save you wasting a lot of time on a brand new PC that "should" just work but doesn't. winmacguy (3367)

Good point,
check the video cable is in (both ends).
Turn the computer on and then turn the monitor on.

If you haven't had it long take it back, the Warehouse are pretty good with refunds / replacements. Make sure you get your important data off first including e-mails and e-mail address book, browser favourites, documents, pictures, music etc.

An excellent suggestion.
Then when you have your refund go here:

Where do they say that it is brand new??

It sounds like a faulty PSU.

570920 2007-07-21 09:08:00 I just assumed it was new or fairly new when the poster said they got it from The Warehouse. It should come with a 12 month warranty on it at least. It is only a cheap Dell from The Warehouse just take it back and get a replacement. winmacguy (3367)
570921 2007-07-21 10:21:00 The black screening could be faulty RAM, check by ripping out ram sticks and trying new ones. Old faulty ones are good box cutters so dont throw them away. Could be power supply but they normaly fizzle out stay out.
There is nothing wrong with Dell computers dont listen to plonkers who bad mouth Dells.

All wrong, But then thats expected.

Dont break into your PC for no need, run a ram tester first.

And its quite likely to be your PSU, Its very commen for them to drop a few volts and cause random crashes, reboots, blue screens, and issues with bootup.

There is also a chance your boot files are munted or something dodgy is lodged into your startup, try to boot into safe mode.

and if you were thinking of buying a new PC, then any time is a good time to ditch a Dell.
