570565 2007-07-20 10:25:00 You'll need an ethernet cable, and then you double click on the LAN icon on the taskbar on both / properties.

Then go into TCP/IP and manually enter the ip address in on both..

Then enable file sharing on both.

Are any firewalls installed on either?

What version of Windows is on both?

Do you want both on the Internet?

If you do, what are u on? dialup? Broadband?

We need more info.

Only do this on the main PC, thats going to dial up,not both.

Ok well under the dialup, you go to properties / advanced, tick the first option.

This will enable ICS, so the other / networked PC gets on the net.

MAKE SURE if you use XP's firewall, it's enabled on BOTH. Or install a better firewall.

And MAKE SURE SP1 or 2 is installed on both (or both are up to date with updates).

Then on the PC you want to network, double click on the monitor / LAN icon on the taskbar (this is if BOTH PC's have XP on them), go to properties / TCP/IP, change it to use the follow ip address.

Where it says ip address, type ion 192.168.0.2

Where it says sunbnet mask type in 255.255.255.0

Where it says gateway type in 192.168.0.1

Thats it.

Once you dial up on the main computer, the PC networked to it, should be able to get onto the Internet.

If you want to share A folder, create a folder on both, (call it anything, DON'T share the whole hard drive tho).

Whats your ISP?? ie: Are u with Xtra, Ihug??

You may have to put the DNS server ip addresses in where it says:

Preferred and Alternate DNS server down the bottom.

570568 2007-07-20 10:57:00 im using slingshot, and another question how i can use the switch to connect the two computer to the netwok?and where i can get the ip address and dns server? im really sorry this is my first time make my own network...thanks Simon08 (12571)
570569 2007-07-20 11:08:00 do you think is't ok one computer is using XPpack1 and the other XPpack2? Simon08 (12571)
570570 2007-07-20 11:09:00 You need an ethernet cable from the back of the main PC (plug it into the network connection on the case), plug it into the switch.

Then you need another cable so you can plug it into a spare connection, on the switch to the other computer.

Thats how you connect the 2 computers up.

Also, if you want to share a folder, you have to have the same workgroup name on both of the computers.

(Right mouse on the my computer icon on the desktop / properties / computer name tab.

Click on change (on both computers). Where it says Workgroup, put in the same name on both computers.

Looks like Slingshots DNS server ip addresses are:

Primary DNS should be 202.180.64.9 (type this in under preferred)
Secondary DNS should be 202.180.64.2 (type this in under alternate).

570572 2007-07-20 11:26:00 Do you have a ethernet switch or do you have a crossover cable??

If you have a crossover cable, just plug one end of this, into the back of your case (the network connection), and the crossover bit (if the cable%

570573 2007-07-20 21:07:00 An easier way to set up the network is to use XP's Network Setup Wizard - you'll find it in Control Panel under Network Connections (after plugging the cable in). pcuser42 (130)
