570515 2007-07-20 06:09:00 Hey just wondering what the best free program available for download that simply locks particular folders (to the extent you cant even preview whats in it without unlocking) with a password.

Just a simple, small and spyware/adware free program recommendation would be nice, there's a tonn out there.

570517 2007-07-20 06:37:00 Yeah, maybe I forgot to mention is has to be basic, as in click to lock folder, enter pass and done. Looking at that site, I'm kinda confused, plus it does more than JUST lock the folder, which is all I really want. --Wolf-- (128)
570518 2007-07-20 08:10:00 I have this on my computer but have never used it, besides a quick look, it is free:

570519 2007-07-20 08:11:00 Your requirements are incompatible - protecting things from prying eyes is not simple. I would suggest getting a USB storage device and hiding it or using something like Truecrypt, which encrypts virtual drives. TGoddard (7263)
570520 2007-07-20 08:13:00 Ah cmon, it has to be simple. I will try zqwerty's suggestion, surely it can't be hard to have a program that shoves a padlock on a folder? --Wolf-- (128)

570522 2007-07-20 08:54:00 For ultra secret agent 007 things I use either:

www.freedownloadscenter.com

or:

www.axantum.com

I use them both, they both work very well. BladeBox is ultra cool, use the Iron Edition it is free.

AxCrypt is free as well. Very good for small files - keeping things away from prying eyes, I use it with right click/encrypt/password, just don't forget the password you use or that is it you will never see the secrets again haha.

Same with BladeBox, very good security just more to set up, a secret store on your HDD.

570523 2007-07-20 09:06:00 You could try Folderhide downloadable from
www.cleanersoft.com
This should provide the low level security you require.

If I say no, will you be mad?

But seriously, I looked, but there were so many, and most of them sounded complicated.

EDIT: Just got around to installing LockBox (the first one suggested) works great, actually hides the folder itself too. Thanks.
