| 570944 | 2007-07-23 01:28:00 | No one said other wise. Brand name PC's are crap right across the board, By the time you get into the higher price bracket where you have a better chance of quality hardware they are no longer cost effictive, and still generally have crap hardware and retarded software configurations. But...you know that already. And then you get (especially) Dell and other brand-name PC makers that decide proprietary PSU wiring / case deisgn / motherboard shape / etc / etc is the best way to go to PISS YOU OFF  |

If there products were so bad then they would be out of business. I have just replace over the last year over 50 Dell pc that have been running 24/7 for the last 6 years. Dell PC's are not for everyone and certainly not for people who like to tinker with their PC's, BUT that is like 5-10% of all users around the world. However for 85% of PC's users Dell are just fine.... Anyone who says otherwise is just showing their ignorance in Technical Support & IT asset management. Give it a rest guys, pc's aren't just for power users! |

| 570947 | 2007-07-23 05:11:00 | You want some info about Dell's dire financial situation being in need of a make over...mmmkay. From my Businessweekonline.com RSS feed. Dell's Marketing Makeover The PC maker has got new ads with a snappier tagline, but to regain market share it will need to deliver more than spots that mimic those of its hippest competitor Mark Jarvis would have you believe Dell is undergoing a marketing revolution. "We'll be seeing radical change at Dell over the next two years," insists Jarvis, the company's recently appointed marketing chief. Jarvis, hired less than three months ago, may be overstating the case. But his remarks reflect Dell's recognition that a big marketing makeover is in order, and Jarvis has already begun making notable changes. Case in point: On July 12 Dell (DELL) kicks off an ad campaign more colorful and edgy than any it's used in the past. www.businessweek.com The joys of having so many RSS feeds is that you can keep up with stuff without needing Google. :) |

Crap is still crap, even if it still runs, its just running crap. I wouldn't expect them to go broke selling crap products to people who know no better, Hence the refernce to meeting low expectations. Its obviously a fine business plan, But there PC's are still crap hardware, Underconfigured, retarded software configuration, a pricing structure that was imported from some back alley in Russia and phone suport in Indonesia. ***, Lame. Mcdonalds sell crap food, Do you wan't to challenge that point?, Perhaps because they sell millions of burgers and you enjoyed yours then they must be awesome? OMG, Shortland St is popular, I must rush home and watch it, Quality. Insert more mocking here. |

Sounds like you obliviously have plenty of experience with these dire pc's...!?Is that dire IT dept software configurations you have knowledge of, home configs you have a 1 sided knowledge of, or just sh*te passed down from others you thought more knowledgeable than you? Either way bud, thats an awful big hole your spewing out of. You cannot judge pc configuration building quality soley from home pc configurations, you have an end user in the driver (local administrator) seat doing who knows what/doing what, out of the box. Only in an a work domain, where you have control on hardware/software configuration can you give any serious judgment of hardware quality IMHO. If you were to say however that the majority of Dell PC users/owners have a more limited understanding of hardware/software idiosyncrasies & more prone to PC disasters, I would say yes. |

| 570950 | 2007-07-23 10:07:00 | Can't say I could care less what you say yes to, The discussion was on Dell PC's. Open em up, They are crap, end of story, Paint it in as many colors as you like, still going to be crap. Doesn't matter if its still running in three years time, It certainly hasn't improved in its lifetime. All hail the market saturation with poor quality disposable PC's. Lets hope it spreads through all industries....... The mentality of it all amazes me. |

Loudly say "Huge Discount on Dell (or even Packard Bell)", it will prove the adage that you can fool enough of the people enough of the time - -. The product may be garbage, but that's nothing a good marketing campaign can't overcome. |

| 570952 | 2007-07-23 11:49:00 | Taking all of the badly designed and substandard hardware into account, I think the worst thing about brand name PCs is the sheer amount of crapware that is preloaded onto them, turning even the best PC into a crawling piece of junk. And it doesn't help when crappy companies like Compaq sell you a laptop running XP SP2, Norton 2006, plus all their crapware on 256MB ram (where 64MB of that is taken by onboard video). Had to install an extra 512MB into it to make it useable, even after removing all the useless programs which are all just clones of the built in windows XP utilities anyway. So, you're the proud owner of a new PC. You anxiously open the box, dumping out the contents, casting the instructions aside. You feverishly push your old PC off the desk and get the new one set up. On the floor lies a pile of plastic wrap and twist ties. Your brand spanking new PC boots up only to greet you with a plethora of pop up advertisements pestering you to pay for anti-virus software or sign up for a music service. Your desktop is littered with website links for 'special offers.' The system tray is already full of programs that continuously use your internet connection to make sure that you're 'up to date.' "When did I ask for this?" you ask. Well, you didn't and that's where the PC Decrapifier comes in. The PC Decrapifier attempts to remove all of the crap on your PC that you never asked for or wanted. To manually remove all of this stuff by hand can take at least an hour (depending on the severity of the infestation.) The PC Decrapifier will detect the 'crap' on your system, you choose what to uninstall, then sit back and let the PC Decrapifier work its magic. All of this stuff is placed on your new PC because the big companies like Dell, HP and others sell advertising space on your PC to put more money in their pockets at the expense of your time and frustration. The PC Decrapifier is a program free for personal use to help the average computer user combat this problem. It is also available for PC technicians at a small fee to use as a tool in their everyday business to save a tremendous amount of time. Interesting though how for just about everyone asking for help with their Dell, HP, etc, the thread just turns into an argument between those who dislike and those who think brand name PCs are just great. But for a case in point with this laptop, it's pretty obvious.... |
