571416 2007-07-23 02:52:00 Correct that AMD is losing its market share?

It seems Intel has struck back against amd?

I remember a few years ago like the first pentium 4s .Amd was doing alot better than intel.

Who's the winner now?

571417 2007-07-23 02:54:00 And your point is Pete?

AFAIK, Alan Wake will use 1 core for Physics, 1 core for A1, 1 for user and 1 for environment maps. I'd rather have 4 cores @ 25% usage than 2 @ 50%, or 1 @ 100%

You forgot it has to use one more additional core for Vista Overhead.....

Since Microshaft force everything exclusive DirectX10 only and Vista and GAMES FOR WINDOZ , VISTA ONLY, VISTA READY, Vista this Vista that, Vista Instant Upgrade, Vista Defender, M$FT like a paranoid overprotective jealous husband worried he about to get cockholded or something... . I still can't believe MOFT ditched/abandoned/pulled the rug out of XP like it was some bastard child that it didn't want to raise or be associated with in any way..... just so Bill Gates can pimp out his new Vista and whore his pocketliners that much more lucriative,,,, sick.... And he'll do it again in two more years when Vienna comes out in 09.

571418 2007-07-23 02:55:00 I'm still hoping the 1066 C2Ds will drop in price.....I have a P5K, which supports 1333 FSB, but if they offered $200 brand new E6600s, I'm gonna buy one. qazwsxokmijn (102)

I'm agreeing with autechre post, currently the only applications that will fully utilize a quad core is video editing or something like large scale commercial mathematical calculations. Everyone in this thread is raving about the awesome value of the Q6600 but in order to even come close to utilizing it you need $1000+ worth of video cards.

How the hell is "4 cores @ 25% usage" better than "2 @ 50%, or 1 @ 100%" it would yield exactly the same performance, while the quad core would use more power as your powering an extra 2 cores over a dual core.

Pete, I quoted games as current software for 4 cores, i didnt say you dont need a fast video card, but thats just for gaming.....and more power?, your having a laugh, 2 extra core may cost you $1-$3 more a month, hardly a show stopper for a user with that kind of hardware.

And yes, Q6600 is awesome power, and currently,SC will play better on a 4 core against a due core at same speed.....reference Supreme Commander (anandtech.com)

You've completely misread my post :groan: Just because Alan Wake and Supreme Commander are aware of and capable of using all four cores doesn't mean each core is being fully utilized.

Well, I've just lost your point then...nevermind!

Spot on there Pete, and it just so happens that there is quite a bit of profit margin in those areas for companies making computers suited to video editing, science, grid rendering and engineering.
