571176 2007-07-21 22:54:00 I have a XP pc connected to LAN, with DSE wireless pci card from D-Link-G604T.
Its been garbage, very slow dropping off , its always said signal extremly slow. Now its not working at all.
A laptop with wireless card is working ok although its only 1 room away from modem.
I suppose its a range problem but my house is a Neil home spec house you just dont get a smaller house.
I am so over wireless and want to run a cable to connect the computers.
My questions are:

Do I need a patch or crossover cable?
Do I use cat 5 or 6 cable?
Do I have to disable or remove wireless lan card from computer?
What do I do when I hook it up?
Sorting out the wireless on computer was easy just too easy put in cd and keep clicking enter and it worked although it doesnt work well.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

If this : D-Link-G604T. has ethernet ports plug it in there. Then u dont need a crossover. But if this isnt a hub, you'll need a crossover cable as well.

Doesnt matter Cat 5 or 6 will work.

You might as well disable the wireless since youre not using it. You dont have to remove it.

Depending on what the D-Link-G604T is, could it be used as an access point, and support MAC filtering. Was the D-Link-G604T wireless as well?

Once u hook the ethernet up you use the Network wizard which is pretty much hopeless, or configure each under their LAN icons (see if both are on obtain an ip automatically (if you're on BB), under the icon/properties/TCP/IP. I take it you're on BB?

Then to share a folder create a folder and share it, if any firewalls are installed besides XP's these will have to be configured for sharing.

According to book dslg604t has 4 ports
Yes I am on bb buts its no faster than dial up because i am too far away from exchange.
What is MAC filtering?

571179 2007-07-22 00:42:00 Just plug one end of that Ethernet cable cable into it and the other end in the other PC.

Then see if things work. See if both PC's bring up a balloon on the taskbar, saying theyre connected.

Dont worry about MAC filtering its only for wireless.

If u want to share files also, MAKE sure the workgroup name is the same name, on both.

571180 2007-07-23 05:52:00 Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Connected modem to ethernet cable in other computer but after running wizard nothing home.
I noticed in device manager the pci modem is not enabled, it needs drivers to enable .
Does the modem need to be enabled for the network to work.
The wireless connection is working although at low signal.

thanks

571181 2007-07-23 09:04:00 Dont use the wizard.

I dont know what this PCI modem is. If its a dialup one it shouldnt matter, since you're not on dialup.

Just double click on the LAN icons on the taskbar / properties / TCP/IP

Make sure both are on obtain an IP.

I dont know what brand/model this modem is or whether its a router as well.

Or whether u have to add anything to it.
