| 570871 | 2007-07-21 04:03:00 | Hi all, I have upgraded a CPU and now when i start it, i keep getting this message : "New cpu installed, please enter setup to configue your system" Press F1 to run SETUP Press F2 to load defaults and continue. Then when i enter the setup everything looks fine, it shows the new CPU, it finds all drives and the time is set right and stays the same so i just press F10 and save it, but once i start it again the same thing happens. If i press F2 it just goes into windows and every thing is fine. anyone got any advise, i would sure appreciate it. thanks |

Thanks for your reply, Its a pent 4/ 3.0 cpu, can't remeber the name of the old m/board, i chucked it a while back but i had a Celeron 2.4 in it, this one i am using now is aASUS P4P800S-X, the only changes were setting time, date, it picked up all drives, everything else like CPU was reconized as well, pressed F10 saved it, reboot same thing over and over. |

| 570874 | 2007-07-21 13:48:00 | Now its a differant story, i seen on the net to undo all plugs, video cards, and anything else that plugs into the mobo, then move the jack one pin up further then put it all back together, then put the jack back to default position, started it up and no post at all, just goes straight onto the windows logo and starts fine, i have restarted about 6 times now and it does the same thing every time. | Ron40 (10475) | ||

What you are describing there is how to clear the CMOS on your mobo. I am a bit puzzled though... I upgraded from a 2.8GHz Prescott to a 3GHz Prescott and I just did the F1 thing for the BIOS and everything worked out with no hassles. I assume by "No Post" you mean the screen is blank on startup and then goes straight into Windows. If that's true, try getting into the BIOS and check all the settings then restart. That should see you right. Nothing to worry about really, especially if things appear to be running smoothly. Cheers |

| 570880 | 2007-07-22 04:17:00 | That looks as if you weren't managing to save the new settings. ;) Then once you did, and it's all fine now. The "F2 for default settings" option doesn't save the settings, because it's intended as a confidence test that conservative settings will work, meaning that there isn't a real problem with the computer. |
