2007-07-24 20:48:00 | I am having trouble getting photos from my computer to the TV. I am running Vista Home Premium. I can get them (950 of them) onto a DVD but not in a form that the DVD player (Philips) is happy with. My Nero OEM suite doesn't like Vista Barry

2007-07-24 21:12:00 | And what did u use in Nero. If u formatted the DVD that'll be why. Standalone DVD players wont usually play cd's/dvd's that have been formatted. And some dont like RW's either.

If you just put your photos on DVD as a Data DVD then no, the DVD player will not play it. You could maybe put them into Movie Maker and burn with Vista's built in burning program. I don't have vista so not sure on that one. |

2007-07-25 09:05:00 | How do you format a DVD? If you use a DVD or CD (if you're doing a data disk), there is no need to format it. The program you use (like Nero after u select the data cd option), will do whatever, and then burn the data to the CD or DVD. You select data disk add the files u want, then burn (and then select multisession if u want to add to it later). The main reason CDRW's or DVDRW's shouldnt be used (theyre rewritables), when burning something (like video, if you want to play it in a standalone DVD player). Is because standalone DVD players, dont or cant usually play CD's or DVD's that have been formatted. It cant read it. If you're doing an actual DVD, the program you're using (like Nerovision), to burn whatever to a blank DVD, will do its thing, then burn whatever to the DVD. It does it, in a way, so standalone DVD players can read it / and play it. The only thing you HAVE to format is a CDRW or DVDRW. Since thats why theyre called rewritables. They were made to be formatted. But should only be used for data not video. And shouldnt be used as a permanent way of burning video (use DVD+ or DVD-'s). Since once u burn to these, you cant write to it again, and you've got more chance of it working in a DVD player. I've only just noticed in Nero too, that you can change the book type settings, under the choose recorder option from Auto, to dvd-rom, physical disk type, and current recorder setting. I've never seen this before. It looks like this is on Auto by default. Changing it to DVD-Rom, may get the dvd you burn to play in almost any DVD player (so I've read). Altho, I'm not too sure if these options will apply to everyone else.

2007-07-25 09:36:00 | CD-RW's are fine for SVCD's they write ok and play on both my DVD players. DVD-RW works fine with burning DVD video onto it also, they also play fine on my DVD players. As far as formatting a DVD RW/CD RW goes you erase the data off them and write again as opposed to actually formatting them as you would an HDD or Floppy disk.

2007-07-25 09:48:00 | CD-RW's are fine for SVCD's they write ok and play on both my DVD players . That may be fine for some not all dvd players . But are these standalone DVD players not a computer DVD-ROM? DVD-RW works fine with burning DVD video onto it also, they also play fine on my DVD players . Same answer as above As far as formatting a DVD goes you Delete the data off them and write again on RW's for format them as such as you would an HDD or Floppy disk . I know that . Thats what I said . Thats why theyre called re-writeables . BUT as above, if you decide to format it before you burn video to it so it plays on a standalone dvd, most players wont play it .

2007-07-25 10:05:00 | I have an old DVD player and a reasonably new one. My *-RW's work on either plus my PC's. They also work on school Mac's. I think there would be very few they did not work on. I have never heard the word "format" used in relation to clearing data off a *-RW before. I erase a DVD and then burn a Video onto it and have no problems. I often burn test Video DVD's first to make sure all is ok before burning to a -/+R or -/+ R-DL so if I have made a video editing mistake i can fix it without wasting a disc.

2007-07-25 21:39:00 | Well, like I said formatting/erasing RW's before u burn video to it, doesnt work in EVERY DVD player. Guess you're one of the lucky ones. Obviously, they'll play in any PC DVD. If it was burned on one. I still go by what I said. DON'T use RW's for burning video. People who use RW's usually dont like spending money to buy normal blank DVD's. They'll rather use RW so many times, till its stuffed, and wonder why its not working anymore.
