571812 2007-07-23 10:17:00 recently i switched to windows vista 32bits, everything seems find but when i came to play music from the windows media player 11, the problem comes .

the problem is: every song "skips/ plays unsmothly/ jumps" when it comes to the last 10 to 20 seconds of the song!

for example, if the song is 3mins and 20 seconds long, it will start skipping at about 3 mins and 10 seconds, for about 2 seconds, after the 2 seconds, everything goes back to normal .

if that just happen to 1 or 2 songs that will be fine for me, but the problems is every single song skips!!!!!

i also notice that it take my new computer longer time to load the songs . back to windows xp, when i double click on a music file it almost plays it instantly, but with windows vista media player, it take about 5 to 6 seconds to load a song!!!!! what the hack is that???

i got so mad that i switched to real player, guess what? all the songs plays smoothly and beautifully!!

but i was wondering why the windows media player is doing this? is there any setting i should change to stop or help the skipping? is there any problem with my hard drive or any part of my computer?

and finally could you guys please recommand a alternative media player for me if the problem can not be fixed? i already tryed apple's itune player and i hated it so much . . . . . . . . .

just any sort of help will be greatly appreciated, thank you so much!!

571813 2007-07-23 11:56:00 It could be related to your audio drivers, or audio acceleration settings, but more likely the fact that WMP is horrible and 11 is especially bad.

I have 11 installed on my XP SP2 and it often causes bad crackling when playing Mp3 files (WMP 9 and 10 were just fine)

If you want a decent alternative player, get Winamp, and get rid of realplayer. It's evil....

Yes - I have had the same issues with 11 in XP. (very slow, bad audio quality) Gone back to 10 -and all sweet. Unfourtunatley if you like using WMP you havn't got the option to roll back if using Vista :(. As Agent_24 said, I would also recommend Winamp as an alternative, as it has a reasonably good media library. And please PLEASE ditch real player.

571816 2007-07-24 00:51:00 Yeah I don't know why WMP11 plays up so bad on some PCs. Maybe it just doesn't like us...

But I use Winamp all the time, much better plugins and stuff than WMP. And it can open a ton more different types of files.

Only thing I don't use it for is video, for some reason that's the only thing WMP seems to be able to do for me, and it's easier to use for that. and if that fails I fall back to Nero showtime, which can play .MOV files that even quicktime can't :D

571820 2007-07-28 23:12:00 try disabling all "system enhancements/effects" under the audio properties dialog. this resolved it for a customer of mine. VaioTech (12585)
571821 2007-07-29 02:43:00 I've tried all that, and never had any enhancements enabled, I have tried everything and my solution is to use winamp as it kicks wmp anyway. Agent_24 (57)
