571656 2007-07-23 04:22:00 OK I am really puzzled.
When I used 3.5 floppies even though my backup set was over 30 of them it never took more than a few minutes to make a good backup every night. Hit the backup program and it would tell me to insert floppies 2 ,18, 29 or whatever.
Then I switched to CDs , NERO and ROXIO
And massive problems.
NERO I found could really get me confused - often telling me the CD I had used NERO to burn, was not a useable CD.
Using Explorer or similar I could copy or read the files on the CD though.
So I stopped using NERO
ROXIO I found heaps better.

Now I have a nice new DVD burner - supposed to do everything. It came with NERO
Well I am trying to cope, but was a little puzzled when my tame technician told me that XP was not capable of writing to DVDs without using NERO or similar.
Strange that because I have formatted DVDs then copied files over using Total Commander with no problem and without NERO being touched.
But trying the DVD in my laptop I get the message that it cannot read this disk - OK it is rather an old laptop but reads and plays DVD films beautifully.

Being a sucker for punishment I am now trying to update the DVD I burned using NERO (multi session) to add the latest files - absolutely lashings of spare space on the DVD.
But again NERO tells me the DVD is not a burnable type.
And programs like EXPLORER tell me the disk is write protected!
Help please. Before I backup to my favourite floppies (which never gave me any trouble).

571657 2007-07-23 04:41:00 Nero.

Theres a little click button in the top left which switches it between DVD and CD.
Make sure you've chosen the right one for whatever media you are about to burn.

Your tech meant Windows builtin burner is not that great. he's right.

How old is this laptop and what O/S is it running?
