571607 2007-07-23 02:25:00 I need a new card, my current one is dying.

I have decided on a GeForce 8800 GTS 640mb

Trouble is I am not sure what company to go for, any suggestions?

571608 2007-07-23 02:51:00 My guess would be the better warranty & software package conpared against price and factory clocks of the core, shader and RAM SolMiester (139)
571609 2007-07-23 02:54:00 Looking at pricespy, I'd go for Gigabyte, as Gigabyte is a good brand, provides good warranty and is quite cheap.

Palit, Inno3D and Albatron I rarely hear of, so I'd stay away from them.

571610 2007-07-23 03:11:00 As far as I'm aware the majority of 8800's are made by nVidia so the only difference between the brands is price and bundle. Some are overclocked but this is normally marked on the box and the manufacturers website.

The ATi 2900XT is a better buy the the 640mb 8800GTS, although it does require more power.

 Asus and Gigabyte are the brands to go with for nVidia cards.

571613 2007-07-23 04:00:00 According to the majority of hardware review sites, the ATI 2900XT is NOT a better buy at the present time. SolMiester (139)
571614 2007-07-23 04:01:00 Unless you are using high resolutions with full detail in games then the 320mb performs just as good. Also unless you have a 20"+ LCD then the 320mb would be a better choice.

As far as which company to go for. Go for the one which offers better warranty with up to 3 years.

The majority of hardware review sites haven't updated their reviews since the initial release. AMD/ATi has had several driver releases since the 2900XT was released and in all released there has been substantial performance increases.
