571633 2007-07-23 01:16:00 Hi Team. I am wanting to install an OEM version of XP home on an existing computer currently running Windows ME. Are there any issues I need to consider. Is it easier or better to install over ME, or should I uninstall this and install XP -any assistance/help/useful tips would be appreciated:) arko (9074)
571634 2007-07-23 01:18:00 Speaking from experience, it would be better to do a clean install, upgrades (especially from ME) can tend to be a bit messy, but if you have no easy way of backing up data, or just don't want to start from scratch an upgrade will be OK. have you checked that the PCs hardware will run XP OK? wratterus (105)
571635 2007-07-23 01:19:00 Do a clean install, reboot chuck the xp cd in, change the bootdisk in the BIOS to the cd.

And boot from it. The XP cd should be bootable.

So, save what u need, (besides programs that have already been installed - reinstall them after), before you format the hdd.

571636 2007-07-23 01:23:00 If you don't want to keep windows ME, or anything on it, AND you have already backed up all your documents, etc, then when you install XP, just reformat the whole drive.

That will give you the best performance, and stability over an upgrade.
