571872 2007-07-24 06:36:00 Vienna? I thought Vista had a odd enough name.

What ever happened to Windows 95, 97, 2000 etc? Cmon Windows 09 (or whenever it comes out)They're only counting NT based windows sorry.
Windows 97? Wasn't that win95c? Windows NT version 8 is probably a more correct name. Well they actually skipped NT 1 & 2 so windows NT 6 would even be more to the point.........;)

Oh and osnews.com has some interesting reading on the topic.

571875 2007-07-24 07:40:00 No its not. Vista is remarkably stable. I use it everyday and have no problems with it.

I think watterus meant in terms of third party apps and plugins. ;)

571876 2007-07-24 07:49:00 There seems to be a lot of comments posted about it already. winmacguy (3367)

571878 2007-07-26 08:23:00 Why can't they sort out the current crap they are marketing and get it working properly for a change instead of hyping up its replacement.
I am still running Windows 2000Pro at home - it continues to work for me without any great hassles, XP before SP2 was a dog, and Vista seems to be following the same course - Buyers of new machines have it forced on them, to them find it falls short of the promise - but wait there is a brighter world ahead in Windows 7,and so on

571879 2007-07-26 21:56:00 I'm just curious as to what gobbles up 12GB of space after installing Vista. XP wasn't nearly as bad, but that was a huge jump in useage over 2000 & 98.

I wish Microsoft would offer a proper custom install like Linux so you don't have to install the crap like moviemaker, games, IE etc.

While it's fun to play around with tools like nLite (www.nliteos.com/) & vLite (http:), we shouldn't have to do this to trim down these behemoth OSes.

571880 2007-07-27 08:29:00 Um, you don't have to have IE, you know that right? and you can uninstall a lot of Windows components using the add/remove Windows components function. beeswax34 (63)

Uhm... you do realise that removing IE in XP SP2 from add/remove programs just deletes the shortcuts and nothing else. You can still launch IE no problem.

Other than that, you can remove very few Windows components without resorting to nLite, XPLite or some other tool.
