571936 2007-07-24 00:33:00 Hmmm - we'll see if it actualy increases real speeds that much at all.
I'm sure the speeds they quote are "up to xx Mbps" just like the rest.
I'm with ihug and our speeds are "up to 7.6Mbps" ... I wish!!
2 is about the average for me

*Edit*
I've just realised too - this is only for "InHome" plans, only in Chch and Wellington

571937 2007-07-24 01:22:00 Remember that this is cable, not ADSL. Connections on the TelstraClear cable network generally perform at the advertised speed. Erayd (23)
571938 2007-07-24 03:41:00 People enjoying high line speeds on cable should be careful not to spread the word. You are getting the high speeds because there aren't many of you. If you recruit lots of people from other media you will find that you share the bandwidth on your segment of cable.

The "up to" speeds will then truly be the upper limit. ;)

571939 2007-07-24 04:08:00 I'm on cable and I don't need more speed, I need more gigs!

It gets to my computer fast enough as it is.

All this is going to do is cost me more as I use more bw to download stuff.

They are only doing it to compete with telecoms speeds. They do also charge xtra for faster speeds if you check their cable plans. Really they are not giving anything away for free, it is just a normal upgrade over time, as the speeds are always going to increase over time and if they don't increase them, they will be left behind.

571941 2007-07-24 04:56:00 You have overlooked one thing telstraclears 5gb plan as from 1st of august is going to be 4mbps down and 2mbps up which is the plan im on for no extra cost.

The telecom plan i was on was explorer 3mbps down or less and 25kbps up at 6gb for $50 a month but there speed isnt any better by a long shot.

Telstras plan is way better and they do have an adsl system as well called PDQ which is not on cable and is very fast. Some guys at work have the PDQ plan and they have all said its way faster than telecom.
