2007-07-27 08:12:00 | Okay. I'm new to posting on forums, so if I get this wrong, please don't shoot me. >.< My family has had a Dell Dimension 2300 running XP Professional for.. I guess maybe 3 years? 4 years? I don't know. Anyway, in all this time, Windows has never be reinstalled, so these days it was really reaching the end. I've done the whole full re install business of windows on my laptop several times before, so I finally sat down to do it on the desktop yesterday. BUT. I forgot to consider that the drivers installed on the Dell that don't come with Windows would be wiped, and didn't note what they were or whatever before. Bad me. Anyway. I got the drivers for video working fine, and the usb. But the drivers for the network on the Dell cd don't seem to be working at all, and I searched their website and it gave me the same files to try. So, I have the little yellow exclamation mark next to 'Network Controllers'. And it won't go away. The drivers listed on the site are: TrueMobile 1180 Wireless USB Adapter PRO/100 M Ethernet Adaptor But it doesn't appear to be either of them. I have seen on the net that it could be a Realtek, but then I don't know what driver I need to get. Can anyone help? I'm sorry if this is a really simple issue, but I can't seem to figure it out at all. :(

2007-07-27 09:22:00 | Thanks to both of you, but that's the file I've already tried downloading and installing, and even with the reboot it doesn't take. I've tried running it from the install file in the actual folder, as well as trying to install it via the device manage, but it keeps telling me it doesn't contain information for the device I am trying to install. (Or something like that) | We Are Legion (12601) | |
2007-07-27 09:29:00 | If theyre exe files it should install the drivers required . BUT if the files you've downloaded, extract the files, to a folder if its got an inf file either of them . Thats what you point it to if you go to the device manager and select the device / properties / driver / update driver option So whats in the files you downloaded? Did the files you downloaded install the files in them, or extract the exe files to a folder? And whats in the folders? An exe file or inf file? Or both?

2007-07-27 09:37:00 | Both. I tried running the exe file, and it says the driver for the adapter is installed, but nothing else. So I reboot and has nothing has changed. I also tried going via device manager, and that's when it gave me the weird message. I'll go and try again right now, though. >.< | We Are Legion (12601) | |
2007-07-27 09:46:00 | If the device manager no longer shows an exclamation mark for : TrueMobile 1180 Wireless USB Adapter or PRO/100 M Ethernet Adaptor Delete them then reboot. Is anything else in device showing an X or ? beside it?? And is anything actually connected (another computer), to either of these connections?? How do u know its not working? You have to connect whatever connection to something and configure it, before it'll actually work. Before the LED on it will come on or before it'll be able to receive/transmit wireless. Is SP1 or 2 installed as well?

2007-07-27 09:58:00 | Neither of those options show up. I still continue to have Network Controller with an exclamation mark next to it. And the other device with an exclamation mark next to it is one called Multimedia Audio Controller. I can't get the driver for that to install either. Man I fail. Edit: Um, I have SP2 ready to install, but haven't done it yet. And I know it's not working because when I try to configure it, it still tells me that I need to have the correct hardware drivers installed before it can run. It now is identifying that I have this hardware, and it asks me to install the driver for it, but it still won't changed past that point.

2007-07-27 10:17:00 | Yeah, I followed those steps. Except it doesn't give me an html link to an install, it tells me how to reinstall it, which isn't what I need, because it gives me instructions that lead ot a point I can't follow. (Because I don't have the options they give me.) And no one fiddles in bios. o_O So.. that can't be it. Edit: Oh, and yeah, it worked perfectly before this. The wireless had never had any trouble.
