572747 2007-07-26 00:04:00 I would really like to know my rights when it comes to warranty cover of computer items that never work but go outside of their warrranty period while that are being repaired.

I bought a brand new HDD and external inclosure fro SuperCheapPC about 7 months ago. The HDD has 12 months warranty I think and the case has 3. While the HDD sort of worked I kept getting "Delayed Write Failed" messages and often found it either took ages to write even small files to the drive or bigger/multiple files would not be written at all. The grand finale was that the drive crashed completely and caused any computer to crash as well when plugged in.

The problem began very early on and I sent it back for repair well within the 3 month warranty period of the enclosure. It turned out that all my data had been lost and new drive had to be ordered. I got over that eventually and after a very long wait of well over a month, finally got a new drive back of the same type, but it still was not working properly, so I send it back. They checked it out, put it in a new enclosure and sent it back, but it still did not work properly so I sent it back. They checked it out and decided nothing was wrong with it and sent it back. And this happened 5 or 6 times in total with the drive never being repaired. Of course it's now 7 months down the track and the drive still isn't working but SuperCheap refuse to do anything because the enclosure is outside of it's warranty period even though the external HDD has never worked properly.

I have been forced to buy a new external HDD from Dick Smith because I have lost too much productivity already over not having a working one for the past 7 months and the new HDD works perfectly. Yet Supercheap will do nothing about my other external HDD that has never worked because the enclosure is outside of warranty period and they say that there tests have shown nothing wrong with it, even though there is. So that's about $300 down the drain for me.

1. I would like to know what my rights are as a consumer in this case

2. I would like to advise people that you are better paying a little bit extra perhaps and buying from a more reputable computer dealer.

572748 2007-07-26 00:09:00 Do a search in here about them.

There's a lot of posts and answers, saying exactly that.

Don't buy anything from them.

Dont go near them, Dont even go to their site.

You're stating the obvious to us. I'd like to point out if you had come here before going there you would have been warned.

Your only option now is to take them to the Disputes TRibunal.

572752 2007-07-26 03:36:00 The other point that hasn't been mentioned yet is that an external drive is one end of the connection, your pc and its USB port could have had some part in this. PaulD (232)
572753 2007-07-26 03:43:00 I sometimes buy items from the $2 shops. I don't expect after-sales service. I expect cheap products. Computer products from SCC are probably the same as those from higher priced outlets. After-sales service has to suffer. Graham L (2)
